Netflix's lo-fi workplace comedy set at a nondescript auto garage seems squarely aimed at being no more than an appropriate starring vehicle for Shane Gillis and his various comedian friends' trademark brand of brash humour. Mission accomplished as the sitcom cements itself as a relatively tame yet juvenile effort with just enough heart and earnestness to avoid any actual offence.

I haven’t heard of John McKeever until I saw this post from @chipotlebear. Why haven’t I haven’t seen him anywhere else (though he is in this Comedy Central webseries called Delco Proper)? I saw his comedy skit on Comedy Central’s page on Adam Devine’s House Party (S02 E07, “Marriage Material”). And thank you mom for lending me your DirecTV login so that I could download & upload John McKeever’s hilarious stand-up. :) [source: comedy central | delco proper] [EDIT: I have a 5-minute video limit... It sucks because prior to the stand-up, there’s a cool skit between John and Adam Devine.]

Speaking of immortal twins across space and time, I just realized why I was instantly smitten by comedian, John McKeever. He resembles this actor, Jeff Mackay. The similar facial features are uncanny. And with the similar beard that Jeff Mackay sported in Tales of the Gold Monkey, John is a dead ringer. If there’s a remake for Tales of the Gold Monkey, John will be the perfect Corky. @d3str0n81 and I were just recently talking about vintage TV bears, and Jeff Mackay was truly one of the greats. John: The crowd in Philly is like— you know, there’s a lot of energy here. They love you if you’re doing well, and they let you know if you’re not. Which can be fun and, you know, it can go both ways.

Wil: There’s a lot of attitude in general in this city, I’ve noticed. Like, I mean, I’ve heard of interpretive dance, but this is the first city where I’ve seen interpretive driving. I have seen people do things on the road here that I did not even know were possible. Like, people were doing turns in front of rows of other traffic. People were just going up onto the sidewalk, parking their car there. People are just like, “That’s what we’re doing.”

John: Right, and the indignation of when they do it and someone is like, “What are you doing?” “What do you mean, what am I doing? I’m getting around.”

Talking about John’s third-ever stand-up gig.

John: But then, like, the third show, I walked in like, you know, sunglasses, cigarette— “I got this. I’ve been killing here for a while.”

Wil: “So yeah, you can just introduce me as ‘Mr Saturday Night’.”

John: Yeah, “I will moon walk onto the stage, do my hack jokes…”

Wil: “The microphone will drop from the roof like in a boxing ring and I will start with, ‘Get ready to rumble!’”

John: “I will snap start my zippo lighter and then basically I’m gonna set this room on fire.”

Wil: “Yeah, I’m just gonna walk out on stage, turn that chair backwards and straddle it…”

John: “And shit’s about to get real.”

Wil: “And you know what? Here comes some truth. You’d better get the bomb disposal unit here because some truth bombs are about to be fired, my friend.”

John: “I’m very sorry. It’s an act of terrorism, but you guys need to hear it. You guys need to hear it.”

Wil: “It’s not terrorism. I’m a political fighter, that’s what I am. I’m a liberator. Like Nelson Mandela, that’s what I am.”

John: [cracking up] You’re basically explaining exactly what happened on my third gig.
