"Follow Me: New Testament Story Songs" by John & Amanda Ylvisaker (on the sleeve - just John Ylvisaker on the label) was released in 1968 by Avant Garde Records (AV 111). The style is primarily Christian folk, though there are also jazz and rock influences, among other styles of music, but the garage and psychedelic sounds from his previous two albums aren't found here. Dick Hyman of Moog fame plays the piano........ Follow Me is a quieter album than Cool Livin’ and A Love Song, with no real psychedelic influences to speak of. No less of a treat though as John and Amanda perform twelve New Testament stories in song, updating traditional melodies through such diverse contemporary styles as folk, pop, rock, jazz, Caribbean and ragtime. Professional musicians again, including Dick Hyman on keyboards (piano, organ, celeste) and Jay Berliner on classical and electric guitar. The nearby church bells were doing their thing this morning and I got to thinking about my mom's favorite hymn, "I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry." Now, I'm not a big fan of this song, but I would like to take a moment to point out the implied devil worship that appears at the end of the first verse and then is never mentioned again.

Given, the whole daemon thing is probably not literal, but I like to think that it is the parent's interpretation of some of their child's behaviors that they don't understand.
