top 5 johnlock subtext scenes 🙃

I'm not very good at picking out subtext but well 😂

1. Tarmac scene (hlv) - we all know what Sherlock wanted to say there...

2. Angelo's (asip) - I'm not sure if this is even a subtext. Sherlock said that girlfriends are not his area and John basically flirted with him lol

3. Sherlock waking up for John (hlv) - words "John Watson is definitely in danger" were enough for Sherlock to restart his own heart. If that's not love then idk what is

4. John not being able to deny being with Sherlock (asib) - "We're not a couple" "Yes, you are" (Irene knew very well what's going on!)

5. John visiting Mrs Hudson (teh) - "Sherlock was not my boyfriend" - and Mrs Hudson wasn't really convinced. How did they act towards each other that everyone though they were a couple?!

That was hard to pick only 5. There are so many great Johnlock moments and, in my opinion, most of them are not even subtexts!

The Game is Something

As I was thinking about recent metas in which the show is speaking directly to the audience and, thinking about His Last Vow, I came up with this.

John: The game is over.

Shelock: The game is never over. There might be some new players now, but that's okay.

What could he be talking about? Sherlock knows he's probably going to die at this point, so it's not his work. As far as I can think of (and feel free to correct me) there's no clear interpretation.

Actually, it sounds a lot like Moffat trying to reassure us: "It's not over yet. It's gonna be okay."

So, what's not over yet? From here on out, I will interpret "The Game" as the John/Sherlock relationship.

The first time the phrase is used is A Study in Pink: "The Game, Mrs. Hudson, is on!" It's John and Sherlock's first case together, the beginning of their relationship. It's on.

After that, we get several references to the "Game," in TGG and SiB, but to my knowledge, the phrase isn't used again until Sign of Three, at the stag night: "The Game is... something." And according to several other metas, Sherlock is just beginning to figure out his feelings for John this episode, and John, who is trying to figure out if anything is possible, fills it in: "On." Even if you don't like the Johnlock interpretation, their relationship is textually shaky, too, as demonstrated by Mary needing to coerce them onto a case.

Finally, His Last Vow. John resolutely asserts that "The Game is over." But wait! We're told right after that "The Game is never over. There might be some new players now, but that's okay."

Proposed subtext: Johnlock, or at the VERY LEAST the happy Sherlock and John friendship we all watch the show for, isn't over. Mary and Moriarty and Baby Watson might show up, but that won't matter.

This is my first attempt at any kind of meta, so if anyone wants to elaborate or even completely revise this concept, go for it, and let me know, 'cause I'd be interested. Just spilling some thoughts out here.
