He’s so tired of dealing with alpha males in his life who think they have autonomy over his every move right down to where he fucking sits. He won’t stand for it. In fact, he won’t stand at all. “Fine Major Egan, you want this seat?”

Gale watches Bucky’s face carefully, and Bucky simply nods, his face puzzled that Gale is suddenly acquiescing. Gale smiles ever so slightly, crosses his arms to match Bucky’s stance and says, “Then you’re gonna have to sit on my lap.”

Chapter 4 - The Ghost of Gale Cleven” aka War Widow Gale Fic

The boys all scatter and Gale is left alone on the hardstand. Truly alone in every sense of the word. Once again, the color of the sky fades away from his vision, greying out until there is no beauty left to be seen. The melody of the birds is silenced and he can no longer feel the breeze blowing across the scars littering his cheeks.

Because Bucky is really dead this time.

Gale turns away from the empty hatch to walk back down the runway when he feels something poking painfully into the sole of his foot. He stops and leans up against the plane’s fuselage and with tears streaming down his face, he finds the culprit.

It’s a stone in his shoe.

I poured a lot of myself into Gale while writing this chapter. My entire world has been turned upside down and I realized that I’ve ceased to live in the world in a lot of ways. Gale’s characterization allowed me to put my pain somewhere. The screaming was inspired by my own true events.

There are trigger warnings here and please take care of yourself mentally as you read it. Take as many breaks as you need or - read it at a later time. Gale is very much passively and actively suicidal in this chapter.

I promise better times are coming. Both in this fic and in real life. I have to believe it. ❤️
