The new album from North Carolina's Joint D≠. This time around you can expect the same virtuosic punk you got on their first record, but a better recording (courtesy of Ryan Bell from Bukkake Boys, GG King, Ryan Dinosaur) and a particularly impressive vocal performance from Nick means the intensity level is dialed up several notches. Few other modern punk bands can so successfully combine the fury of raw hardcore and the subtle melodies of more progressive punk bands, but Joint D≠ have done it again. The Sorry State (and band) exclusive version is limited to 165 copies and comes on clear smoke-colored vinyl (with some red streaks, and features an obi strip screened on transparent vellum so as not to obscure the brilliant Kelly Keith artwork.
Early praise, ambivalence, and statements in general for Satan is Real Again, Again, or: Feeling Good About Feeling Good About Bad Thoughts: "I think you all sound great. This is an album I would buy." - Henry Rollins "Hardcore’s most persistent obtusists return defiant with another long player that’s managed to avoid any legal action thus far, so they’re already ahead. Skipping many of the over-plowed furrows of hackneyed now-punk, Joint D is lashing its seed into the stratosphere to test some new and inventive uses for snot, vigor and distortion. The signature, breathless, quipping snarl is back; and the layers of soaring feedback remain to these mostly sub-two minute speedy vunderjammen. Thing is, the rage-along-douse-you-with-beer sensibility has been turned way up to peaking, and it’s incendiary. Refreshingly, too, ‘Satan is real…’ has been mixed to command our attention on every word, bucking today’s trends of hidden reverbed-out vocals that say little. This is North Carolina punk, though, so of course it’s sprinkled with meta nods to please the observant scholars of hardcore past, but the immediacy of this sideswipe at convention should please new and dedicated listeners alike.
