Sami groaned loudly as he bumbled around the staff locker room at NeXT Step Dance Studio, trying to simultaneously dry his freshly washed hair and pull on a button-down shirt with little success. His last class had run long, leaving him limited time to get himself ready for his Valentine's Date with Fergal.
Thankfully he'd had the foresight to bring his outfit with him to work, all freshly pressed with the hope of being vaguely presentable in mind. Even his favourite skinny tie from Original Penguin hadn't escaped the iron's wrath.
Giving up on his hair, Sami quickly tried to button his shirt. Fingers trembled with tardiness induced nerves, buttons going into the wrong holes and even more time being lost. More haste less speed indeed. If Sami hadn't pre-tied his tie then that probably would've been left in the bag due to the state he was in.
Sami grabbed his coat and chucked his work gear and bags into his locker for future retrieval, no time to head back home to dump it there. Sami careened out of the locker room, nearly knocking down Bayley in the hall as he rushed out of the building. A hasty apology was yelled over his shoulder as the doors closed behind him.
Sami turned around and immediately stopped in his tracks at what he saw. Waiting outside the doors stood Fergal, dressed all smart-casual with a lovely shirt and cardigan combination. And held in one hand was a pink heart shaped balloon, an almost shy expression on his face as he held it out to Sami.
"Thank you, Fergal," Sami didn't realise how breathless his whole getting-ready-routine had left him, or maybe it was just the sight of Fergal standing before him looking bashful as his gift was happily accepted, "...is that my hat you're wearing?"
"Huh? Oh, yeah..." Fergal grinned as he reached up to tip the brim of the hat in Sami's direction, "You left it behind last time you were over. Thought it went with the outfit, you like?"
"No fair looking better in my stuff than I do, Ferg," Sami grinned as Fergal took the hat off, before placing it haphazardly on the head of it's rightful owner.
"That's better, it was a little too tight," Fergal chuckled as Sami fiddled with the hat, getting it as straight as he could whilst holding in heart balloon in one hand, "I know we were s'pposed to meet at my place, but I figured I'd spare you the fussing Becky and my da would have given ya."
"Noted and appreciated," Sami nodded, taking Fergal's hand is his free one, "Shall we be off then?"
"That we shall," Fergal smiled as their fingers interlocked, heading off to their pre-theatre booking, "Happy Valentine's Day, love."
"Indeed it is, Ferg," Sami lifted their enjoined hands together to kiss Fergal's knuckles, "Indeed it is."
