It’s a “dancing ting”..... Dancing was my life. When it came to moving, grooving, wining(wicked with the waist movement), I was ON! I was stepping and moving at 4 and years old like I was an adult, who KNOWS how to dance. Dancing was natural to me. Movement to the rhythms of soca especially, was my thing. Keep in mind, this was the early 90s. Apparently the way that I used to dance, wasn’t “right” for a boy. Those words came from a family member. The exact words was I shouldn’t “stick my butt out when I’m dancing”. It didn’t stop me from being a dancer, but I did start being conscious of how I would dance.....eventually. I now became more concern with how I dance, instead of just feeling the beat and letting my body move accordingly. . . . Fast forward, I look at all the dance videos on social media. I now understand that there was NOTHING wrong with my moves, groves and ability to wine viciously to “One cent, five cent, ten cent dollar” by Soca Boys. But it was simply the environment(people in this case)I grew up in/around who were themselves victims, in their own world of issues.....even to this day. . . . The moral of the story is to be you! If you are a mother or father, older sister/brother, guardian or whatever...it is imperative that kids are encouraged to be free in expressing themselves, especially creatively and instinctively. Intentionally create environments for them to live freely. That is where you will discover early where to invest your resources for their overall success into adult. There is a reason many are in jail, depressed, lost and in worst cases....dead. It’s not as complicated as some would try and make it. When a human does not feel FREE to be who they are, and is ultimately judged negatively, demonized and made to feel like their natural abilities are wrong or not celebrated(in this case), resentment, anger, and psychological issues WILL develop, causing more harm to our families, community and society as a whole in the long term. . . We grew up watching Barney, Teletubbies, Mr.Rogers, Magic School bus and more..... Where did it go wrong? The innocence was gone....#iKingAmongstKings . . . dancing to my “afrobeats” #jombolo https://www.instagram.com/p/BtJsS7oFHo8/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=4120uxxgo4xr
