What VG OST have you felt was the most wasted? I mean like in terms of high quality the music has, to the shockingly low the game its attached to. For me, its probably the Sonic Adventure soundtrack. Like it's a shame with tunes so distinct and memorable, that makes the game feel like a prototype.
I guess the game that always jumps to mind is Jurassic Park on the SNES.
Now, Jurassic Park for the SNES is a game I kind of love, but it’s one of those that I don’t know if I’d recommend anyone else play. There are a lot of caveats to enjoying it, and some of its game design feels more like a happy accident rather than something that’s tightly woven. I scripted a video for it once like two years ago that I’ve yet to put together.
But the soundtrack! I really love this game’s soundtrack. I don’t know what kind of genre you’d describe it as, either. I guess I’d put it in to the nebulous category I’ve mentioned a few times on this blog, which is “Weather Channel Music.” But I think a lot of people would say that The Rippingtons defined “Weather Channel Music” and they’re often described as kind of a jazz band of various types, and I wouldn’t describe this as jazz music of any kind.
It’s also more energetic than most “Weather Channel Music.” That stuff is always super laid back, the kind of music you chill out to. Jurassic Park for the SNES is a lot more driving than that, it really pushes you forward.
It’d help if I wasn’t so clueless about actual music terms.
