wada sez: The vignettes in this one all set up scenes from the beginning of The Transformers: The Movie, with Kup directing the other Autobots in setting up a roadblock, Blaster chilling in the communications tower, and Wheeljack and Windcharger hanging out before they’re both brutally killed side-by-side by the Decepticons. Hot Rod’s line opens his first scene with Daniel. Josh Burcham had already coloured an official adaptation of the film for IDW and a tie-in story by Simon Furman for Australian home-media company Madman Entertainment, so this fits nicely in that vein; he’d go on to colour the pack-in comic for the Reveal the Shield Rodimus vs. Cyclonus two-pack.

wada sez: This strip had an overwhelmingly positive response at the time of its publication. Per a comment of his on deviantART, this was Tristan Jones’ first time coloring someone else’s lineart! Clean inks and a grayscale-colored version of the artwork can be seen below the break, together with a preview for tomorrow’s strip. And as a bonus, years later, Multiverse contributor Heather Smith did her own take on the colors for Wilton’s lineart—which in my opinion are far superior! I’ve included them below, too.

wada sez: This Tigatron spotlight obliquely ties into some of the main themes of the Beast Wars cartoon—namely, predestination and chaos. The events of the show are shaped by the independent agendas of many individuals across space and time, which collide to ultimately crystallise into the very future which incepted those same events. The ability for characters to determine their own fates, outside of the dictates of the timeline and their faction programming, forms the show’s central conflict, with many characters overcoming troubled paths to arrive at a more balanced state of being.

wada sez: If the color work looks unusual for Seb, he explained how it came to be on deviantART: “Pencils for this were done years ago, someone else was gonna colour it. ...so the other day, I accidentally came across them, put the page in a protective plastic sheet, placed some tracing paper over it, and did it myself the way I 'saw' this page. 2 sittings, 6 hours total. Sorry. :) Hand-painted with tempera.” Sadly, Seb appears to have muddied the story a little in the final panel, as it’s supposed to be the brown bear in the center, fleeing, while Polar Claw stands on the right: “Artistic license. :giggle: The fleeing one used to be brown brown, but it totally shattered the overall ook of the panel....so I over-painted him. He's white with fear now. :D” See below for the clean pencils and colors.

wada sez: Burcham sure loved picking up the strips inspired by The Transformers: The Movie, didn’t he? Galvatron is drawn in an IDW-inspired design; he’d produced an illustration of that design the year prior, which I’ve included below.
