Drink every time "Jon the Fiddler" mentions "crossing lances" with Dunk
would Daeron fare a bit better with another dragon dreamer around? probably. so what if Daemon II Blackfyre was a political hostage raised in Maekar's household?
> it has to be w/ Maekar so he'll be sorta away from most of the politics in King's Landing where Blackfyre loyalists might still be hiding in secret. Daemon II will be in Summerhall, and while it has its own risks being close to the Reach where Daemon I Blackfyre's supporters were, they are known rather than not. Plus, the Anvil himself is the one residing in Summerhall. Also to put him as far away from Bloodraven as possible.
> Daemon will ofc be a child at the aftermath of the Redgrass Field, around 7 yrs old. His father used to give him and his older brothers lessons in names of family (several half-uncles, really now) and who's who on their side and not. His father hates his half-uncle Daeron, would often scoff at his title 'the good', and this half-uncle had a first son who looked more like Dornish (to his father's glee). Daemon's father would often tell his boys that at least they got his looks, from the hair and eyes and already they were far more special than the lot who lived in the other side of the sea. Daemon understands this as his other half-uncles are bad and wanted nothing to do with them. It starts to make sense then his dreams that his father and older twin brothers will die in a field of red. He tells his father his dreams, ofc, but like he's wont to do, he'd only smile
> so when Daemon realizes that he's among the wrong bunch of half-uncles, he remembers his father's lessons but unable to emulate the bravery his older twin brothers he was certain they had until their death next to their father's. Daemon instead demonstrates his fortitude by being a shy and quiet child who looks like he doesn't know how to harm anything. For a moment, Daemon feared that it wouldn't work under his cousin Maekar's stern stare that clearly said he doesn't know what to do with him, much less under his half-uncle Brynden's terrifyingly cold and considering eyes on him. They said it was him who killed his father and ended his father's rebellion for good, and it will be so easy for him to finish off another of Daemon I Blackfyre's son.
> But being meek worked on his cousin Baelor, the one his father had mocked for looking Dornish with his dark hair and complexion, and it was him who coaxed Daemon to eat, his voice calm and kind as he asked about Daemon's fiddle and how well he played with it. It was cousin Baelor who assured him that he could keep it on their trip back.
> Daemon arrives in King's Landing and saw his half-uncle Daeron the Good for himself. He's just as kind as cousin Baelor, and it might be where he got it from. Daemon hesitates at the face of gentleness that greets him, at the smile when he's told that he resembled his father so much and that he recalled Daemon I often in the gardens playing his harp. He's not as bad as father had made him out to be, and it's easy to warm to him. He had two more sons in between his eldest and youngest, and cousin Aerys is a quiet, if standoffish, person who keeps to himself and his books, and cousin Rhaegel is an odd ball but who doesn't mind Daemon's presence one bit and even called him a beautiful child.
> alas, it is not w/ them that Daemon will stay but to cousin Maekar's side of the family with his wife and two sons. Daemon would rather stay with cousin Baelor seeing as he already have two sons himself, but it is not for him to decide.
> He's sullen on the trip to this Summerhall, not that Maekar particularly cared. If anything, he's just as annoyed to be saddled with Daemon and seemed to have swallowed a bitter pill. He doesn't hurt Daemon, though, and mostly left him to his own devices as if he Daemon doesn't exist.
> The first time Daemon met Daeron, the boy has an unruly hair and dark bags underneath his eyes that for a second Daemon thought he went roughhousing but no. He'd been like that a couple of times himself until father would be the one to help him sleep and only then did the dreams quieten. Daemon won't have that again, not with his father dead, but he'll worry about it when it happens again.
> Daeron seems to have his mother to help him w/ it but not as often. Daemon wants to ask, curious of Daeron's dreams. But it's not his place and never will be, so he keeps to himself, playing music w/ his fiddle and tries not to cry sometimes for missing his mother and younger siblings. He wonders how they are, if uncle Aegor survived and is looking after them as he promised father.
> Daemon plans to retreat from anyone as what they surely preferred of him, until one day Maekar's second child, the curious one w/ a rude streak, decided that his fiddle is a good toy to ruin. To be fair, he does look a bit guilty for a bit before turning defensive in front of Maekar and claiming that it's Daemon's fault for not letting him borrow it in the first place.
> He cries to sleep then until he's exhausted. Until he dreams once more of something vivid. Of Spring with the air of ill and the green from the light of a fire made by his half-uncle Brynden
> The evenings do not get better as it passes. Daemon looks at himself in the mirror and sees a boy w/ the face of a man burdened with grief and dreams of death. He looks worse than when he saw Daeron last, but at least Daeron has his mother, his father, and his brother. Daemon had no one.
> It is one evening that he's visited by a high fever that made him delirious. He thinks he saw his father and older twin brothers, and Daemon wanted nothing but to come with them. They're gone just as quickly as Daemon saw them, and when he next came to, there's someone humming and it's Daeron's mother, Lady Dyanna. She stops humming and gives him water when she notices him awake. She brushes back his hair limp with sweat. She doesn't say anything about dreams, nor does he tell her anything because she looks like she knows and understands. She does, however, reproaches him for not telling even the maids that he's having trouble sleeping.
> She stays w/ him for a while that only made Daemon miss his mother more, but Lady Dyanna is kind w/ a firm hand that even orders Aerion to apologize to Daemon for breaking his fiddle and as consequence of his tantrum, he will have to learn the fiddle w/ Daemon during formal lessons. (It's a stroke of genius proposed by Dyanna to Maekar himself: why not let the Blackfyre boy turn his interests to softer pursuits instead of the arms?)
> Daemon saw of Aerion more times than Daeron, and Maekar's boy is very tedious to be with, petulant and used to get his way as the youngest child. Still, he's younger than Daemon, and it appears that Daeron is more often than not indoors or sleeping in wherever nook of Summerhall, and Aerion hates his older brother's lack of interest for the outdoors. It's w/ Daemon that he finds a companion in riding and fishing, and while there are always guards w/ them, Daemon preferred the outdoors and Aerion isn't so bad a company w/ enough patience.
> It's Daeron who comes to him first the first time they speak w/ each other. He tells him that he just had a nightmare and that his mother thought he should tell Daemon. His dreams come true, he claims, and somehow Daemon knows that he's not lying.
> Daeron has a penchant for sketching his dreams, the people in stick figures and backgrounds in vague shapes. Daeron says there are times that some of the images from his dreams get lost once he's awake, but he draws them nonetheless, the same image of green Spring in Daemon's previous dream.
aaaaaaand, they bond, Maekar eventually warms up, albeit begrudgingly, to this relatively harmless boy whose only fault is to have a rebellious sire.
