Day 6 - Flora 🌼 . . . #jonasajaustarot https://www.instagram.com/p/CV9EXJCMPr7/?utm_medium=tumblr
The Moon. Her eyes can see through you. She knows you better than you know yourself. She’s always watching. Her influence is inescapable. She can bring you back from the darkness and guide your way home.
So, these lovely cards are not draws but rather a little sample of the beautiful Jonasa Jaus Tarot by @jonasajausdesign, which arrived today!
I was actually really worried when this deck came out that I would not be able to get it, but my amazing little brother decided it would make an excellent birthday/Christmas present for me. (So much thanks to him, I can’t even begin.) My heart was so full when it arrived today!
Anyways, it took awhile getting here. We weren’t sure how long it would take, since it was international post. So, for reference, I think it may have been a little under a month in transit. But, it was packaged well and the inner packaging was just perfect. (I put it up on my instagram earlier)
The cards are very big, but maybe only a little wider than standard tarot cards. (I think they might be a little taller than my old Clow Card deck.) The cardstock is very thin and flexible. They are not glossy at all, but a nice matte linen. They shuffle nicely, but I recommend shuffling them along their long edge if you riffle. It took a little while to adjust for size, but after that it was actually kind of nice.
The images, ah! The art is why I fell so in love with this deck (and I know I’m not alone here) -- especially for the plants. Each suit has a particular plant (swords = snapdragons, cups = daisies, wands = ginger lilies, coins = buttercups) and there are also plants for all of the majors, most of which I am still identifying. The listing for this deck says: “I made my own vision of the tarot relating medicinal plants, flowers and insects with the meanings” -- so naturally now I want to know what all the plants are.
I do like that nearly all the men in this deck are either skeletons or shadowy figures, it’s an interesting artistic choice. The center of the stories for each suit, instead, focuses on the story of one woman in each. The portrait work is just as stunning as the details. (Which is probably why I picked two portrait cards to share with you.) Having these not-quite-absent male figures really just made those stories shine.
The greens, yellows, purples, and blacks of the color scheme really make it rich. It feels like vintage book illustrations, but still very modern... but also rooted very firmly and knowledgeably in tradition, if that makes any sense. I think it’s going to be a joy to work with visually and intuitively, it’s a very emotive deck.
Anyways, I really thought I ought to do a review on this deck since it is so new and so exciting. It was definitely the top of my deck lust list for a very long time!

Halloween scavenger hunt - Skeleton
Could I have gone for an entire deck of skeletons? Yes. Would that be too easy? Absolutely. Also I love this deck and I have to show it more.
Halloween scavenger hunt - creepiest card
He creeps me out, that is foooor sure.
The Sun. Remain within the promised light of a new day. Golden rays like healing hands will chase away the darkness. Know that the sky will not forever be blanketed with clouds. Keep your faith in that which is to come.
The High Priestess. Listen to your inner voice. Trust the words spoken by your heart. Focus on self awareness. Do not be mislead by a waking world. Follow your subconscious. Be mindful of your dreams and symbols that may normally go unseen. The enlightened mind is one that chooses to share knowledge, it does not use knowledge solely for self serving purposes.
