I have had an au for 70's era Jonathan and Kanna cooking for like a century

Part of the reason why people stay in Gotham rather than Metropolis or, for example, Central City, is because the rent is so low. In Metropolis, your apartment building can be destroyed in your Hero's weekly brush against an Alien Invader, so while you're safe, you're now homeless - both increasing demand and decreasing supply. Also, the increased cost of both rebuilding and insuring real estate in Metropolis renders the place unlivable for lots of younger fresh faces.

Most of Gotham's rogues don't go for property damage, outside of the occasional one or two. The worst case scenario tends to be a single building blowing up, not half the city; a lot of villains like Scarecrow or the Mad Hatter don't cause any damage to the city, only to the people in it. Your mortality might be higher, but it also means that rent is actually affordable for the people living there. Also, nine times out of ten, if any major damage is done to the city, Wayne Enterprise or one of the linked foundations is likely to step in and help rebuild, keeping costs even further down.

How were the first iterations of Kanna and Jonatan? Did they change a lot from they are now? (Bonus if you got pics!)

I wish i had some old pictures of them on hand! I unfortunately threw out all my old art of them in a move...was trying to move on from past trauma in a bit of a scorched earth sorta way.

They aren't SUPER different from how they were, though perhaps in some key ways they are. Kanna is no longer a super innocent baby, and Jonathan is not as cold and gloomy as he was back then.

But they still have the tough angel-human romance going on! But also Jonathan has a version of him that's a crow too. Complicated to explain, but if you wanna ask about it I'll explain that some other time too!

Jonathan and Kanna's original relationship was actually based on roleplays I had with a now ex best friend from high school. :,) No one had ever shipped an oc of theirs with Kanna before, and so when she offered to have Jon be her love interest, I latched onto them preeetty hard. You see, Kanna has ALWAYS been my babiest of girls, my beloved, my everything. So Jon accidentally became my favorite too... cus he loved her.....;;;;;w;;;;;

Back then, Kanna was a cat-eared full-fledged angel from heaven <3 very innocent and naive about human stuff, but wise in a strange, alien kinda way. She was also possessed by a demon named Marly, who would sometimes take over her body and do atrocities for funsies?

Another thing about Kanna was like...back in high school I was basically obsessed with taboo topics, reading books like Venus in Furs and Lolita.. so Kanna was definitely intended to be "lolita" coded so to speak, in appearance.

Meanwhile, Jonathan was supposed to be (from my understanding), a college-aged human from Victorian England. He was a gloomy, raincloud type of guy unless it came to Kanna. He had lost his sister in a tragic accident, and Kanna appeared to him as a sort of guardian angel? She was described as bringing color to his otherwise dreary life <3 also, obsessed with art and arting, to his rich family's chagrin.

Jonathan had been one of her newer ocs, so I had helped her give him a name (Traverse), and a few other things for his characterization and lore. I know he had lore outside of his relationship with Kanna, but I only really know well the version of him that was Kanna's husbando. Back then all of my ocs lore had basically been fused with this friend's for me, because I was really attached to all of them, as well as her. I really reeeeally loved her lol! But I don't think she kept my ocs as closely to her heart and lore as I did hers, lol.

But that friend one day more or less cut me off because her parents looked through her computer and found our roleplays and chats (very bad), and came to the conclusion I was a bad influence on her. Now, I don't know all the details about her side of things, but I took it very badly back then, lashed out, crashed out, generally fucked up. The whole thing put me into a major depression funk for a long, long time.

I tried really hard to move on from all of our stuff together, but I guess you could say Kanna has been in love with Jonathan still all this time. I kept it to myself for a long time, but I decided to reinvent Jonathan on my own terms, to take control of a situation I'd for so long felt extremely powerless over. I know everyone ships her with Dev, and I do too! At the end of the day, Dev is "true endgame", or OT3 is true endgame.

But Kanna never really did move on :,) and she loves Jonathan. Nowadays they take on different forms. I changed Jon's design to be a bit different from my old friend's original concepts, but I kept his last name because it had been my idea originally...? She didn't like that tho, lol.

It all got so convoluted, I just decided to yoloswag and do my own thing. I know this old friend is still mad at me, especially because I "kept" the concept of Jonathan from our roleplays. But if I understand correctly, my version of him isn't really like how her version of him is.

I respect and credit her for inspiring their relationship and Jonathan's character. But I don't think our work has anything to do with one another's anymore.

Nowadays, the two have sorta swapped roles with each other. Jonathan is more like Kanna's light in the darkness, and Kanna is the jaded and gloomy one who has trouble trusting and feeling loved. He still dresses like he's going to a funeral and rain follows him around, but Kanna has fallen from her place in heaven and lost her heart. :) So, Jonathan shared his heart with her and picked her up from her fall.
