amidst the threat of bugs, overturned buckets of poorly buttered popcorn, a speaker we had slight trouble figuring out, and an annoyingly bright light from the open hatchback, i "kind of" watched this one at a drive-in. I haven't read the book, need to, and maybe/would probably watch it again if/when i did/do. It looked a lot like The Hobbit (probably the hairy giants and the darkness of the BFG's house) or Peter Pan (the Jeremy Sumpter, live action one - probably because of the ship they sleep on), and also reminded me of another movie...Charlie and the Chocolate Factory maybe? I wish it hadn't been so CGI heavy, because then going from giant land to meeting the Queen the first time wouldn't have been so jarring. #MarkRylance was a great choice for the BFG, he definitely looked like the Quentin Blake illustration come to life, #RubyBarnhill looked like a female Squints through the whole first part of the movie, but cleaned up nice and ended up being cute (if a bit wooden), the BFG repeatedly scooping up her tiny glasses throughout the movie was adorable. #PenelopeWilton was an odd choice for the Queen, maybe because she'll always be Homily to me. still. always. I just wish it'd've been stop-motion instead of CGI - that would've been amazing (it worked for James and the Giant Peach, and The Fantastic Mr. Fox) #ssmovieof2016 #adventure #family #fantasy #JemaineClement #RebeccaHall #RafeSpall #BillHader #ÓlafurDarriÓlafsson #AdamGodley #MichaelAdamthwaite #DanielBacon #JonathanHolmes #ChrisGibbs #PaulMonizdeSa
