"Sexuality: Up to interpretation" ("Sexualidad: A la interpretación"). Esa es forma en la que el sitio "Stephen King Wiki" denomina este aspecto de Richie Tozier en "It", el libro de (claro) Stephen King publicado en 1986 y en la miniserie emitida en 1990. Sin embargo, el personaje es abiertamente calificado como "gay" en las películas dirigidas por el argentino Andy Muschietti en 2017 y 2019. Miembro gracioso del grupo de amigos conocido como "El Club de los Perdedores", la pantalla grande nos lo mostró con los rostros de Finn Wolfhard y Bill Hader en sus versiones infantiles y adultas respectivamente.

Richie es el comediante del grupo, un aspecto necesario para soportar el clima tétrico que se ha ceñido desde siempre en el condado de Derry merced a la presencia de una figura perversa que parece provenir de otra dimensión para secuestrar, cada veintisiete años, a varios niños del pueblo: el siniestro Pennywise. De adulto, el personaje permanece soltero y trabaja, en el libro y la miniserie, de DJ; en los filmes, de comediante.

La elección de convertirlo en las películas en un personaje gay, sugiriendo en la segunda parte que estaba enamorado de Eddie Kaspbrak (otro miembro del Club), es deliberada e incluso aprobada por el propio King, quien celebra que "es una de esas cosas que son geniales, porque se hace eco del comienzo". "Se cierra el círculo. Al menos hay amor involucrado. Alguien se preocupa por [Eddie] y eso refleja el amor que la pareja de Adrian siente por él. Así que fue genial". (Aclaración: aquí, el autor hace una referencia a Adrian Mellon, uno de los personajes que padece un destino fatal).

“well” you opened the car door and got in “where are we off to?” richie put his car into drive, and you were off. it was silent, not the bad type, but not the good type, your hand was over his on the center console. “so, we should talk or some shit” you knew that was the last thing he wanted to say, but there was nothing else to say. “nah, we dont rich.” you stroked his hand with your thumb “i think it's clear how we feel.” a sigh he didn't know he was holding it was deeply released as he headed down the more rural route of your town.

 your head stuck out of his window, blissful in the moment, basking in happiness. “be careful y/n, if you fall out of my window i don't know what id do” he taunted, keeping his right arm against your mind just in case anything were to happen. he parked the car at a scenic overlook facing a lake, and got out, coaxing you out with his ring and middle finger. you both sat on the trunk of his car, a distance between the both of you. 

“i give a shit about you more than anyone ok” richie exhaled “and i'm sorry wasn't more open, i didn't want to ruin a good thing.” you stood up, your arms crossed “just a good thing?” richie rose and took your face into his palms “a fan-fucking-tasitc thing” he brushed against your lips “the best thing ive ever had.” you closed the gap, feeling your eyes becoming watery. one of his hands slips down to your lower back, he pulls it closer to him. you move one hand to the back of his locks and the other to the base of his neck. the kiss was needy, it was earth shattering, you love was simple yet it could overcome anything.

keeping your forehead on his as he breaks from the kiss“babe it's been so hard without you.” you snicker “one week without me and you are already whining!” he backs away, taking your hand.
