Last month, #BET scored ratings gold with The #NewEdition Story miniseries, which raked in 29 million total viewers over its three-night event. With nostalgia proving to be the key ingredient in their success, the network is hoping to recapture that same magic with a TV series highlighting the life of rapper #Nas. According to #Deadline, BET has ordered a pilot to begin shooting an hour-long show titled #StreetDreams. #JonathanLevine, creator of the TV series Rush, will write and direct the pilot episode. A rep for BET confirmed to #Billboard. Deadline also reveals that the show will be set in the early '90s and will track "the ascent of Nas, a young man from the #Queensbridgeprojects who will go on to become a famous rapper, as he evolves from young man to crack dealer to rapper to adult." Jonathan Levine - Long Shot (2019) Hey, it's a comedy with Seth Rogen... what do you expect? It's raunchy, it's funny and in this case it is kind of sweet. The title refers to the fact that Rogen plays a character who used to be babysat by Charlize Theron who is now Secretary of State of the USA and who he falls in love with. Rogen plays a schlub, recently unemployed journalist as his independent activist newspaper gets taken over by a very thinly disguised Rupert Murdoch/Fox News style company. Rogen gets hired to be Theron's speech writer and hijinks ensue! It does have, as was to be expected, its share of low humor jokes involving bodily function, but it's all done in good humor, the actual romantic plot of the film isn't terrible at all and weirdly enough they can make the relationship quite plausible. Rogen represents the kind of happy go-lucky but principled person that Theron is kind of needing after years of making political compromises and having very little fun. Towards the end it does take a turn for the dramatic that is actually quite welcome and gives us a nice sweet ending. A fun rom-com with elements of gross out comedy which is actually one of the best comedies of the year up to now. Worth watching.
