how do you feel about mbti typing of idols as far as it being a different culture? do you think it makes typing different than it would be for western cultures?
Hmmm, I never thought about it!
I’ve done some typing of idols but when you consider it, it might be different.
The cultures are very different and considering that Asian cultures are seen as collectivistic in comparison to Western cultures which are individualistic, the typing may be completely different.
To explain, collectivistic communities are based on the good of the group over the good of the individual. Concepts like “saving face” seen in Japanese and Chinese societies is not to help the person but to not make the family or community look bad. Individualistic communities are opposite. It’s the good of the individual over the community. There have been studies that state that the East Asian societies are moving toward a more individualistic view but the collectivistic ethics still remain strong.
Personalities may be similar but the simple 16 types may not fully cover the different Asian communities or even idols. Personally, even with the simple typing I did for idols, it was difficult to say which type I think an idol is.
When you look at things, especially in terms of psychology and/or sociology, one has to remember cultural influences and how society is in those area. I will admit that my typings are flawed because the idols are not tested but also because I never really took in account the culture.
Thank you for the question! ^_^
