An easily glossed over detail in a super familiar Bible story: at the burning bush (and for the very first time), God reveals his personal name to Moses. We’ve probably all heard “Yahweh,” but the significance of God giving Moses his personal name feels so necessary for my life now. It’s God reaching out. It’s an act of connection. In a time that they say we’re most “connected,” we all feel so isolated. Here, God initiates. The word “Hallelujah” simply means “praise Yahweh.” Holy Week is just around the corner — the week where we celebrate God connecting to us in our most isolated spot: in our suffering, estrangement, and death. I wrote this new song, Hallelujah Amen, with a couple dear friends, as a way to help us reconnect.
