Ian's hands are shaking, and Jordan wonders if he should take the box back before he drops it.

"You like them?" he asks, even though Ian hasn't even tasted one yet.

Ian finally looks up from the seven pink-topped cupcakes, eyes painfully wide and wobbling on the edge of tears. "You made these?"

"Janie helped."

Now Ian just looks skeptical.

"I helped," Jordan amends
