I just want to add; it's not far-fetched to say Ouma does this to push the trial along. I believe he was suspicious of Korekiyo, and painted suspicion on himself to get a read on him (See: Korekiyo's reaction to Ouma's confession) I like the idea that it's also a power play, though. Ouma does his best work when people think he's lying, and knows how to lead Shuichi on a certain path. Needless to say, this boy is a smart one.
Of course it’s not far-fetched! This boy is capable of scripting an entire trial to account for peoples’ action and reaction, with alternate paths to boot. A stupidly impressive feat, one that sounds unrealistic, but nonetheless it’s real and we shouldn’t forget it happened, and what he’s capable of. So seeing the ins and outs like this is super cool with that hindsight knowledge, and it helps to know what we’re seeing unfold is just a small taste of that.
And yeah, the bolded point about the power play is basically what I meant by minimising his credibility to an end (not... worded very conclusively or clearly, now I look at it again, argh)- he works under the radar as a matter of course, so in order for Monokuma to not catch on to things he’s doing *ahem* Insect Meet and Greet, his gestures to others can’t be spelled out. And while this has its limits, it’s also when he can really shine as his emotional-rollercoaster best, using his knowledge of emotion like stirring up winds to change the air.
Really, Ouma is endlessly fascinating for the way he comes off like he’s ‘an annoying brat’, yet that’s the complete flip of what he actually is- the smartest and wisest one there, all with heap tonnes of passive aggression. Terrifying
