Good to see Jorul again under non-semla homicide circumstances. And I was not expecting both him and Jarul to be so nonchalant if not cautiously optimistic about the direction Harald is taking Elbaf in. From what little we saw of them in Big Mom's flashback and how intent they were on preserving warrior culture on top of being the old captains of the Giant Warrior Pirates, I would have thought that Jorul and Jarul would have vehemently opposed all these talks of peace and trade relations. But no, they're all for it. We love open-minded old badasses.
No, the root of most of the issues seems to come from these old fucks
In a way, they're essentially Elbaf's version of the Gorosei. Not necessarily in terms of having absolute power or being the strongest, although they definitely might have once been considering how much Elbaf has always valued strength, but more in that their uncompromising adherence to outdated xenophobic traditions that few of their citizens actually benefitted from is causing immense damage to their society by allowing toxic mindsets to spread.
Their opposition to Harald marrying Ida probably doesn't just center around blood purity either. They know she's the one who got Harald to adopt more pacifistic ideals. Less pillaging means less riches brought back to Elbaf and it also means less people afraid of Elbaf which means more incentive for humans and other tribes to potentially come to Elbaf and take resources away from hard-working Elbafians and by gosh golly gee I wonder what that could be social commentary on.
Them pushing Estrid onto Harald wrecked Hajrudin's home life and set poor Loki up to be viewed as a scapegoat the second he opened his serpentine little eyes.
Yet it's also strange how despite being so influential in Elbaf's hangups as a society, we have yet to even hear mention of them in the present day. Maybe they really are the Elbafian Gorosei and they're up in the Heaven Realm without a care in the world that Elbaf is literally at the threshold of hell.

Jarul’s best friend, “Beardfall” Jorul was the co-captain of the Giant Warrior Pirates. After the Winter Solstice’s fasting drove child Linlin into a frenzy, he tried to kill her for destroying the village he held dear, but Linlin instead killed him. While the town of Elbaph forgave her as Mother Carmel begged, they did not ever want to see her again, and in fact act as though she had never lived in Elbaph.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JORUL!!!
