The fact that Neil was trying to fix the Foxes as much as possible before he went to his sacrificial altar. And you could say he was doing it for the benefit of the game but that was not the only reason.
He wanted them to be okay after he left died.
He NEEDED them to be okay.
He needed to know they could survive. He was trying to protect them in a way his mother never tried to protect him. By giving them the family and support he so desperately wanted needed.
He wanted to stay. He wanted a life.
Something his mother would have never let him do or have.
So he fought for theirs so they could have it and keep it.
