I was thinking last night about some of my fav jojo characters and how they fit in with bigger overall themes of the series. And I started thinking about part 8 Josuke and it made me. AUGH. (Jojolion spoilers ahead)
One of the themes you get throughout jojos is the idea that the love we have for the people can not only transcend generations but even entire UNIVERSES (ex. the zeppeli family, the speedwagon foundation protecting the joestars after both jonathan and speedwagons passing, the entire stone ocean ending, etc.).
as we know, through equivalent exchange and the locacaca, Josuke is the genetic exchange between Kira and Josefumi who died in attempt to save someone they both deeply cared about. This of course being Holy Joestar-Kira, who was the mom of Yoshikage Kira and who josefumi believes saved his life. Jojolion is Josuke's 110 chapter long identity crisis lol but the conclusion he comes to at the end, is oh so sweet. He decides that he is not josefumi or Kira, but just. josuke, his own person, "the one that came from the soil"
Despite that though, we still see him have this deep love and desire to save Holy. In particular this line in ch 92, which I love:
"My name... Is Josuke Higashikata... And my memories from when I was born... Are long gone from this world... And they'll never... Come back... But even so, there's something I'm certain of. I am your son. No matter where I go, or what era I live in, that's something certain that I can believe in. Mom..."
the fact that even though Kira and josefumi are gone, and Josuke is his own individual, their love for Holy still lives on through him. and in the end josuke goes on and continues what kira and josefumi set out to do! to save Holy from her disease! thats so incredibly sweet and tragic to me... and It all connects back to the grander idea throughout jjba, that our love goes on beyond just us. Kira and Josefumis desire to protect Holy wasn't just strong enough that they died in attempt to save her, but powerful enough where it persisted past their own lifetime and lives on as Josuke...
