constantly thinking about the potential of a jonathan robin friendship. them getting partnered up on a project in school before season 1, before anything happened, and her being involved in will and the disappearance of barb, her old best friend. them hanging out after season 3 because she starts working at family video and jonathan wants to become a filmmaker. them becoming friends because of robin being punk and jonathan just being alt overall. them sharing a pretentious music taste and pretentious movie taste. them teaming up to make fun of steve. both of them thinking nancy’s kind of prissy in season 1. both of them thinking steve’s a total asshole in season 1. there’s so much untapped potential here

Jonathan and Robin would be besties and no one can convince me otherwise

Jonathan who had been kind of intimidated by Robin, not because of anything bad, but because she talked so much he was scared of keeping up

Robin who had never really formed an opinion on Jonathan, just kind of orbited around him and had proxy beef with him because of Steve

This is how it would happen:

One fateful day everyone is busy doing their own thing and Robin and Jonathan end up alone at the radio tower

There are a few minutes of awkward silence as these two realize they have never actually been in a room alone together, much less had more than interactions by proxy.

After a few minutes of shuffling and silence Robin would definitely begin one of her nervous rants, expecting to be interrupted at any time but Jonathan just... listens

At first she thinks he's just tuning her out but notices he's nodding along to the things that she says and when she gets into the topic of music, and he just lights up

Suddenly it's been two hours and they're still talking and she realizes that shit maybe her and Jonathan have a lot in common

Robin who reminds Jonathan of Argyle or at least a more sober version of him

Suddenly they're hanging out more and more, introducing each other to new songs and artists and it's just nice to have someone to talk to that... understands what it's like to be a little bit weird

They're both so observant and notice the little details of things around them and are constantly clocking everyone

They get high once with some leftover weed Jonathan had in his bag from his California days, and it goes as well as you can imagine. (Let's just say it ends with a midnight broadcast of Rockin' Robin.)

Nancy is happy at the development of their friendship, relived that Jonathan is making friends, though she does envy the way Jonathan seems to be confiding in Robin instead of her

Steve on the other hand is extremely jealous and infuriated by this development

He'll make comments to Robin like, "Oh, how's your NEW best friend." and huff away dramatically (Maybe if he does some soul searching he'll realize that hes jealous becuase he wants Jonathan to talk to HIM)

Jobin friendship but with angst because Robin was friends with Barb since she was in first grade only for her to leave her for Nancy as Robin was too 'weird'. So Robin befriended Jonathan as he didn't have any friends either, they sat together in register order and he was in all the spaces Robin went because she had no friends.

They were never really friends though just acquaintances but it still really hurt Robin when he started hanging out with Nancy all the time. But when a year or so later Robin became best friends with Steve it also hurt Jonathan because this kid was one of his major bullies and he thought they had an alliance on it.

(When they take a shift at the SWQUK together they realise what was going on and laugh about it.)
