Who is the Saint of Santurce? El Santo de Santurce is a kind of alter ego that, actually, is not that different from who I am. Inspired by the very famous Mexican wrestling legend, El Santo, I started wearing the mask with a silver cape in the mid 2000 ́s and began a series of performances and apparitions. The first one was to support my mentor, Carmelo Sobrino, in an activist action he created to protect an area of a park in San Juan where many trees where going to be cut. Afterward, I started to walk around with the mask on me in the streets of Santurce, a very important district of Puerto Rico, and I baptized myself as El Santo de Santurce. Eventually, and after doing other series of performances with some colleagues and doing some films, I decided to create sculptures with the mask, and integrating it in dummies that were later on in the shopping cart.
