I'm trying the same thing but I'm allowing myself one book every paycheck which I NEED to read before I buy a new one. Though I'm also trying to finish all my abandoned books too #muchstress
I am doing something similar! I am allowing myself one book for every six books I read from my shelf, and I need to read it before buying a new one. I might have to increase the number because I feel like it won't work out too well if I keep it at six. Towards the end of last year, I was doing so well! I would have a pile of books ready to purchase, and then I would stop and think about whether I really was going to read them soon or not. I mean unless they are special editions, books aren't going anywhere. They are going to be there for me to buy, so I don't need to buy them right away. I think having a book blog and talking about books just makes me think of all the ones I want to read, and that's what makes me buy books when I don't need them. I really would love to see my TBR pile decrease.
I have rules when it comes to the ones I abandon. I think about why I abandoned it, and if it was something like I was too busy at the time or wasn't in the mood for it, then I will try to read it as soon as possible. But If it was any other reason, and I don't pick it up again soon, then I just get rid of it. I figure that I can focus on ones I really want to read and get those abandoned ones at the library if I ever decide to give it another chance.
I hope we both succeed :D
