Lily was always more than happy to spend the day with Joseph, having grown very fond of the glasses wearing detective. He let her color quietly in the corner as he finished paper work, the small girl knowing from her daddy that she shouldn't be disruptive when someone is concentrating. But when the taller male decided to surprise Lily with a trip to the park, she was more than delighted. She held hands with Joseph the whole walk there, pointing out her favorite flowers and the cicadas on the trees.
But Lily's adventures came to a sudden halt when Joseph's voice sternly said to stop. Lily froze mid-step to look up at Joseph, her bangs falling in front of her big brown eyes slightly. She gave a confused expression until her eyes traveled to a man across the path from the two of them. She wasn't exactly sure how to process the situation that now seemed to be over her head. Lily was easily able to recognize Joseph stance when he reached for his pistol, in case he needed it, having seen her daddy do it sometimes on instinct. Then the order to close her eyes came from Joseph and Sebastian's orders to obey everything Joseph said immediately rushed into Lily's mind, and the order was quickly obeyed. She closed her eyes and let her small hands come up to cover them just in case she was tempted to peek.
With her eyes closed, it became harder to grasp where the situation was going. The sound of quickened foot steps echoed loudly, the sudden blow of a gun next, and then something metal clattering to the ground. Lily flinched at the cacophony of noise, her most reliable sense not available at the moment was making her anxious. She was worried for Joseph. But in the next moment, she felt the thick leather of his gloves wrap around her small hand and quickly usher her away. Lily stumbled slightly, finding it a little hard to keep up with Joseph's quickened pace and still with her eyes closed. But it was getting harder and harder to not peek, a five year old could only keep their eyes shut for so long. "J-Joseph... What's wrong? What was that noise?" Lily asked, still trying her very best to keep up with Joseph's orders. "Did the scary man hurt you? Your foot steps are uneven..." Her voice trailed off slowly as her mind slowly processed the concept that Joseph was in fact hurt. Lily let her eyes snap open, her worry overwriting the order to keep her eyes closed. "Joseph, does your tummy hurt? You're bleeding..." Lily's voice was frantic and unsure, a small child of her age not knowing how to handle knife wounds or wounds of any kind really. "W-we should call Papa... Papa knows how to fix scrapes and make the pain go away." Lily said, resorting to her only knowledge of medical care. Lily's grip tightened on Joseph's hand, her big brown eyes filled with fear and worry for him.
