Before we get started with the big news, we wanted to take a moment to congratulate all the nominees and winners of the 5th Annual Wilmington Theatre Awards - especially Chase Harrison for his big win in the Best Original Show category for Wendigo, a Browncoat Big Damn Original (we may be a little biased on that one.) Also many thanks to John Staton, Jeff Hidek and the _Star News _for holding these awards every year; it truly is a special part of our local theatre community and, let’s face it, we can all use the pat on the back sometimes
So, as promised, it’s time to start announcing our upcoming season. But before we get to specific plays or events, we’ve got to announce why this season is important. I mentioned last week that the number 10 would be key. Our upcoming season will run from May of 2016 through October of 2017, encompassing ten main stage shows total. Why such an extended, long season? Because in October of 2017, the Browncoat Pub & Theatre - the little theatre that could if ever there was one - will be celebrating it’s 10th Anniversary! So we’re going to make it a year-long celebration, celebrating the past that’s made the theatre what it is today and also looking forward to the (hopefully) long future it has in store. As part of that celebration, we’re recommitting ourselves to the Browncoat’s original mission - providing a place to create original art and see it flourish. Fully 8 of the 10 shows we have scheduled are original productions (you’ve got to have one blockbuster or two), and we’re proud to support local playwrights and allow their characters and stories to come to vivid life on our stage.
So, with all of that in mind, what’s the first show we’re announcing for this 10 Years & Still Flyin’ season?
Josh, fresh off his masterful adaptation of Titus Andronicus and writing/directing contribution to Amazing Wonder Shorts, now brings his talents to bear on a brand-new and fantastical tale!
Greedy is the story of a small town, where local legends and town gossip mix and meld until what is supernatural and what is reality begin to merge. What happens when the mundane, daily existence of a tight-knit, everyone-knows-everyone community begins to look more like the legends they've passed down for generations?
You can find out when Greedy premieres at the Browncoat in July.
There’s much more to come. Stay tuned to this space tomorrow for our next announcement, this one involving a pair of projects from an award-winning playwright!
