To be an artist is to be a hunter. You’re always looking for that right material, that right process to serve your purposes of expression. Some of the most satisfying experiences is when a new material is introduced that fulfills the original concept better than expected. Originally I was planning on working with glass mirror, which is rigid and time-consuming to clean up the edges. Thankfully I stumbled upon acrylic mirror. This might seem like a simple change to most, but for me, it gives me those giggles that I get when I’m about to see a movie I’ve been waiting for all year.

Josh Pew

Hi! I’m Joshua Pew and I’m working on my BFA in Craft with a concentration in wood. Originally I came to OCAC to learn furniture making and design. This last summer I began embracing pure sculpture, and have become interested in overlaying historic ways of thinking onto our modern society. I am still finding my visual language in how I do sculpture, and with the help of my advisors and classmates, I’m getting closer to it. Here are a few ideations in my efforts to explore different shapes and balances.
