Okay I am home from road trip so I can finally type and answer asks and my friend. My friend look me in the eye listen to me. I began thinking about this out of sheer desperation while trying to see if I could work a wlw romance into the Benedikta longfic I'm planning but.
Benedikta x Jote could go so fucking hard I'm not even kidding.
Like there's the spy versus spy of it all. There's the fact that they were both girls who would have been erased by the world but were named anew by cults that shaped them into killers for opposing ends. There's the fact that Benedikta is sworn to a liege lord who gives not one single shit about her and sees firsthand that when Jote is hurt (because Benedikta has inflicted the hurt), Jote actively has to tell him not to react. Like there's an envy and a seeing of both her younger self's loyalty and her men's in Jote's conduct and we know canonically that Benedikta is Weird about loyalty because of her damage from Cid leaving.
And Jote has a Terence-tier insight score for Dominants And Their Specific Mental Illnesses so there is no way she could be entirely blind to how crushingly isolated Benedikta is. Like she would know in one look that Benedikta does not have the same return of loyalty and love from her liege lord that she herself has in Joshua. She would read that instantly and also still despise the person who kidnapped and tortured her in an attempt to sway Joshua, who used that mutual loyalty immediately to hurt them both.
And it would be so compelling if for both of them, over time, this awful and inconvenient compassion for the other's predicament started to grow.
And also they can side-eye each other and go *that's* the liege you swore vassalage to? Lol. Lmao even.
So yeah I don't think it integrates cleanly into my longfic idea though I may pepper it in a bit but I DO daydream frequently about a scenario where Benedikta survives Caer Norvent and Jote has to keep tabs on her and they develop something Incredibly Strange.
