July Year XXXX,

I was sent to the past today, huh it’s funny, I never thought time travel existed before today. My father, well not just my father but others as well, sent me back here. I can’t tell anyone why though, not yet. Not even you, little journal. Just as a safety precaution you know? I hate keeping secrets, but being the Captain of the Golden Dawn, there are times where I’m forced to keep secrets from everyone, for their own safety.

I was told more kids would be arriving, although I’m not sure how many, some were already here from what I was told. I wonder, heh maybe I’m a fool for hoping, but maybe Hikari’s here as well. If she wasn’t, I think I’d worry terribly about her. Haha look at me; an absolute fool who’s in love with someone who doesn’t even notice my feelings for her. Which I’m partially thankful for. Ah but I’m getting off topic.

The world here is the same, yet different. The buildings all look the same as they do back home, but some of the stores have changed, the clothing style has for sure changed and evolved, even the people living here have as well. It seems this was long before Lord Julius’s dream was achieved, well, almost achieved.

The Castle is the exact same as it is back home on the outside, so I wonder if it’ll be the same on the inside as well? If so, I’ll be able to easily make my way to the Wizard King's office and with me wearing my Golden Dawn robes, it’ll make it that much easier to infiltrate.

Sixth Time’s the Charm

Before I get into being accepted and the process, here’s a little backstory for you.

When I visited Walt Disney World for the first time back in 2009, my 11 year old heart knew exactly where it wanted to be for the rest of its life. When I was asked what I wanted to do once I got older, I said I wanted to work for Disney. I was told by a lot of people that that didn’t count as a real job. I didn’t care. By the time I was in 8th grade, I had discovered the Disney College Program.

Cut to my first year of college. I hadn’t even technically started my classes yet when I sent in my application for the first time. It was mid August and I had just applied for the upcoming Spring Advantage year. Then I had until early November to hear back from them. It was agony waiting, and the end of October came when I received my first No Longer In Consideration email. I was heartbroken. I cried for weeks. 

I applied for both Spring Advantage and Fall Advantage when the time came to apply for those seasons. I constantly updated my resume, made sure I was open to whatever role, and hoped for the best. I’ve seen more NLIC emails than anything else. Years fly by when finally the day comes.

My first email for a Web-Based Interview October of 2018 for the upcoming Spring program. It was my fourth time applying and the first time I had ever gotten passed NLIC. I was stoked. The interview felt more like a quiz and I finished it in 30 minutes. As soon as I finished, I got an email telling me to set up a time for a Phone-Interview, the last step before either being accepted or denied. I watched Youtube videos, I took notes. I did everything any CP had ever said to help your chances of getting in. The day of my interview, I was nervous, but I felt prepared and confident. It lasted about 15 minutes, which was less than average time (or what I had heard was average time). I thought it went well. And then I got that dreaded email. NLIC. I cried. 

That didn’t stop me from applying for the following Fall program that January. It was a very sudden NLIC email that time. It was early 2019 and I was nearing the end of my junior year of college. I was losing hope of ever getting into the DCP and decided when August came around, I wasn’t going to apply for the Spring program. Family told me I needed to start looking for a real career path and to figure out what I wanted to major in. Then I had a friend who said, “Look, just apply one more time. The worst that can happen is they say no. If they do, I’ll book a trip to go with you. Then you can show me around your favorite place on earth.” So when that August 19th came around, I applied again. On the 28th, I got an email. 

ACTION REQUIRED! 

It was time for the WBI again and onto the PI, which I set up for September 8th. For this PI, I didn’t study anything. I thought maybe my first interview sounded to rehearsed, so I just let myself go with the flow. Two days later, I had just pulled into my driveway when my watch buzzed and I saw three words covered the watch face: 

YOU’VE BEEN ACCEPTED! 

I screamed. I cried. My dream was finally coming true after all of these times. Four years later and my SIXTH time applying and I was finally going to live my dream. And to top it all off, I ended up in my number one role: Attractions! I immediately began joining DCP groups on Facebook to try to find roommates and friends. It was the start to my dream come true.

Journal entry #1

(Starting the journal at 14, a year after his mom's death. Tw: Mention of child death, character suicide, minor physical, emotional & sexual abuse, mentions of minor drug usage.)

Stole this notebook from an asshole at the bar, who was harassing the bartender.

It was new, guess he never used it or he had just got it, maybe he was one of those wanna be writers who live by the Hemingway quote "write drunk, edit sober" junk.

Whatever the reason, it doesn't matter now that I have it.

I don't even know why I'm writing this to be honest. I guess because is getting cold again and the anniversary of her death is inching closer.

It's soon going to be a whole year without her and even though her soul and being died years ago, the day my brother did. I could still see her physically, even if she was just a shell of the mother that I once had.

I miss her, a lot. I know I hadn't seen her smile or heard her laugh since the age of five. But I could always hope.

Now, the only way I can see her is through the poison I inject through my veins to be able to spend at least a few hours with her and Alex whenever I can.

In the drug fueled hallucinations I see them happy as they once where and I am again loved by them.

Those moments are rare, now, though. The closer christmas gets the worst the nightmares of last hellish Christmas hunt me.

I see her lifeless body the way I found it that cursed morning and I cry in my sleep, begging her to come back again, according to the other lowlifes I manage to sleep around for warmth whenever a rich sugar daddy doesn't pick me up for the night.

I have nightmares about them and my own father, often too, but none compare to the vivid images of the Christmas Morning I am sure I will never be able to wash out of my brain.

Sometimes I wake up the next day feeling agony all over my body, as I did after Sir Augustus beat me an inch of my life when he found out.

Bastard thought he had actually "finally" killed me,and he got close, don't really blame him for tossing me out like garbage behind that alleyway.

I would have begged him to actually finish the job if he had waited until the next day to make sure. God damn I had never been in so much pain before, & that is an accomplishment after being beaten for years, almost daily.

No, nothing will ever be as bad as finding her.....not even the nightmares of Alex drowning can be as awful as last Christmas.

I hope to find some money today to get high and hopefully have a nice trip with my mum and Alex.

I could really use their smiles right now......

I don't really know how to finish a journal entry honestly so uh.....

Let's see, I woke up in this strange room, and all I saw was this small journal and a pencil. There's no one around, at least, that are conscious.

E’Stella’s Journey // Journal entry 1

I’m no stranger to peculiar dreams. For most of my childhood, I’ve been haunted by nightmares pitched in Darkness and sorrow. I lost my family, my clan, to the Calamity when I was but a child. Ever since then, nightmares have been my constant companions. Amidst the Darkness sometimes another dream came to visit me. One that spoke with a soothing, tender voice, one that spoke to my heart.

Hear...Feel...Think...

Most times, by the time I woke up, the dream had already faded, unlike the nightmares that kept me awake for nights on end — but it filled me with warmth. Those words, that light, were like a Mother’s embrace.

I was adopted by a Hyuran family that lived in Quarrymill. Good fellows that accepted me, a nameless Miqo’te child, into their family. They taught me the basics of survival: how to find edible berries from the underbrush, how to catch fish, how to hunt wildlife, how to cook, how to sew, how to work leathers, how to make my own bow. They taught me my letters. They were humble farmers.

A farmer’s life was not my call. That had been clear from the beginning. As I grew up, I grew restless. The nightmares getting even darker and a voice pushing me to take my bow and look for fortune elsewhere. When I came of age, with the blessings of my adopted family, I took my bow and what little they could put together for my traveling fare and basic needs and set out fo Gridania.

Hear...Feel...Think

It was the first time the voice came to me so clear. The first time I could witness the dream to its full extent. On the Gridanian-bound carriage, I must have fallen asleep at some point. I found myself floating in this place that was Everywhere and Nowhere, a place that resembled the Sea of Stars above, but my heart knew was not Beyond — rather, Within.

I looked around and a ball of light, a sphere emanating a soft, warm glow, popped up in front of me, beckoning me to follow, a gentle voice telling me to

Hear...Feel...Think...

So I followed it. I was not afraid. The light was warm, the voice gentle. It happened all of a sudden. A whirlpool of Darkness, a gate to the Void. A man clad in black robes emerged from it. I knew it was bad news. I stopped in my tracks. But then came the light, it embraced me, bathing me in its warmth.

I felt the sudden surge of power from within and I was bathed in light. Just as the harbinger of Darkness got ready to strike, my appearance changed into that of a bard. I knew what to do. The man clad in black came at me, roaring, his mask alight by an ominous read glow. I nocked my arrow, took aim...

“Ya’ll right, lass?”

Journal Entry

                                                                                                     October 13

On this day, the loathing is not so much a raucous, bellowing thing that drowns out all else. It is more of a continuous stream of facts, gentle echoes along the inside of my skull that remind me of what these bloodied hands are capable of. It is a soft voice, feminine, somewhere between the woman I am arrogant enough to love and the misguided woman long passed. She often switches between the two in silhouette, dragging fingers either calloused from the grip of a sword or fingers dusted with the sands of time along the halls of my thoughts. The mind truly is a facetious thing, is it not? Mine abhors me as much as I abhor it.

The voice seems to smile as she reminds me of my worth, and today it seems that she fancies my love. ‘Do not get too comfortable,’ she says, and I hear her lick her lips as if to savor the potency of her sentiments, ‘your soul is as good as gone. I’d be willing to bet that it lives in Hell as we speak.’ And I cannot help but agree. I’ve thought so for a while, especially during the periods like these where there is no pain, only nothingness. Hollowed chest where a heart should be, emptiness beneath my skin, I am left in a state of emotional void. ‘What does that make you? A walking corpse? Permeating, rotting, causing death and decay and sadness for all who surround you?’

And I might reply, ‘Perhaps,’ if I did not know better than to converse with my own thoughts. Indulging myself—and how strange it is to think that such a portion of myself sounds absolutely nothing like my speaking voice—only leads to disaster. Though if I were to indulge, I might say, ‘Perhaps you are right, and I do genuinely believe that my presence does more harm than good to the others, but I have a duty to uphold.’

And she might say, ‘My, how arrogant can you be? Haven’t I warned you against believing yourself significant? You are nothing.’

It is here that I find myself conflicted. I hit an abrupt halt in my finding a solution. On the one hand, I cannot abandon my guild. Meredy would be devastated to lose another after already losing so much, and I would not dream of leaving this Earth while she still resides on it. For Erza, the real one and not this malicious doppelganger my subconscious has constructed, the sentiment follows—but that is a discussion for a different day. If something were to happen to Meredy or one of the Seis and I was not present, I would be entirely at fault in my failure to prevent it from happening. On the other hand, my being here clearly bothers the Seis. They do not trust me, and I am neither foolish nor selfish enough to ask them to find my presence comforting. I am the source of their nightmares, after all.

But I suppose I am just lamenting at this point. I do not expect anything to come with a painless solution. I stopped wishing for progress without self-sacrifice long ago. I wish for nothing more than for the Seis to have a second chance, to find their own paths to pursue, and hopefully they will find happiness. 

‘Idealistic fool,’ and she laughs in genuine amusement. ‘You believe you can give that to them?’ 

To which, I say, ‘No, but I can surely try.’
