I really liked everything I heard of it before and am huge fan of Elisabeth Olsen's indie-movies but was a bit skeptic since it's a Facebook Watch show. I thought they would start with a big blockbuster show and probably ruin the nuances such a show could have. But I was so wrong! I hope this show will get all the big audiences it deserves. And that the Emmys and Golden Globes don't overlook it, just because it's not on a big network, cable channel, HBO, Netflix, Amazon or Hulu. Some may not find this show interesting. But I am chiming in to inform you that this show is not about back to back plot twists, and crazy developments. If that's what you're looking for, you won't find it here and you shouldn't go much further. However, if you are at all interested in the human condition, this is a story for you. It's more than just her going through the motions, it is telling their story. You learn about what happened, what lead up to the lead up situation. You come face to face with real life obstacles that a widow faces and the complications that arise along the way. This story is about human connection and the struggles of a widow truly mourning her husband. Elizabeth did an incredible job in this performance & fantastic acting, I felt every moment of it. This story inspired me and I refer anyone I know to watch this show. It's ten episodes, by the end of it you will be able to figure out how you feel about it for yourself. I hope you will enjoy it as I did. Director: Julius Avery Writers: Bill Ray & Mark L. Smith Overlord¨ is the rare hybrid of a WWII film and a zombie horror - kind of movies that were prosperous back in 1970s and early 1980s, but has been long gone since then. And even in those times most of them were cheap and cheesy exploitation films, full of gore and nudity. (And yes, lots of people nowadays will think not of grindhouse cinema, but rather of ¨Call Of Duty¨ or ¨Wolfenstein¨ game series, which is an obvious point of reference here.) And ¨Overlord¨ nearly creates a perfection in assembling those pieces of a Nazi zombie horror movies into one single story. The plot is simple, action-packed and has it all: lots of fighting, shootings, machine guns and flamethrowers. The characters are schematic, almost one-dimensional, because it's not WWII drama, and that's enough. The SFX are great, there's a lot of blood and guts here, exactly what one can expect from a film which involves Nazis, experiments with (un)dead, and covert military operation. ¨Overlord¨ is the Nazispoltation at it’s best: dark, bloody, action-driven horror about zombie soldiers trying to take over the world. Take it for what it is, and have fun. Overlord is one hell of a cool, bad ass World War II action/thriller flix, which would have been good enough, but then it turns into a gory blast of horror film that is worth every blood stained minute. It’s like getting two awesome flix for one. Taking place just prior to the Allies’ D-Day Invasion of France, Overlord really is an incredible war movie. I have to say opening sequence in the plane as the soldiers a approach their drop zone is heart pounding and intense... it’s reminiscent of the opening sequence of Saving Private Ryan. Yeah, it’s that good. Anyway, the mission is to take out a radio jamming tower the Nazi’s (I hate those guys) have placed atop an old French church. As for the horror movie aspect... Overlord’s level of horror is right on par with the recent round of excellent horror films. It’s tense, scary, creepy... and there is a part that made me squirm like I haven’t since the Misery hobbling scene. I mean YIKES! Besides that, it’s friggin’ Nazi zombies... what is not to like (or dislike I guess) Overlord is just about as entertaining as it gets for any horror/action fan... it really is a must for fans of either genre. The cast, the direction, the writing, the effects... all are just awesome.
