Thinking all week how my story is very much like Steven Universe
It has huge twisted political plot with some coup d'etat and other things in the background
And it also has whole arcs, one after another, dedicated solely to explore characters’ feelings and relationships with one another.
And I don’t like to consider them “fillers”. They are the story.
It’s a story about people, and how their very human doings connected in the course of these major events. Hell, it all ended the way it ended partially because Val had ‘ill feeling’ when visiting Jovol’s court (being only half-right), and Kahary convinced Dan to go with it.
It has several moments of ‘okay we weren’t prepared for this in the slightest, we can’t do shit’. Kahary’s stupid remarks got them in touch with Ulis, without whom they certanly couldn’t do shit, and very possibly would be killed.
Like, i’m split. I know I love this, this ‘rash decisions and dumb luck, that’s why this crap venture succeeded’. But somehow there’s always be these salty people who would say ‘it’s not life-like, it’s just crap writing’.
eh.
