Ein Lied kann eine Brücke sein - Joy Fleming
Germany is one of the pioneer countries in Eurovision. This year will be the 64th German entry. They have two wins to their name, many top 5 finishes and have seven that have landed last (three nil point). The two winners funnily enough have a strange relationship with the number 27; Nicole’s win was Germany’s 27th attempt to win the song contest and it took another 27 years before Satellite. So Germany’s next win is schduled for 2037.
Ein Lied kann eine Brücke sein is one of the aforementioned unsuccessful songs. And in truth, it deserved much better than being in the last few places in this song contest. Joy shows so much passion in the Eurovision performance, but back in the German final, it was more restrained. Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of Joy still there, but it’s just not as forceful as the 1975 Eurovision version. It is almost a tender opening before some fun creeps in at the end. It really was a highlight of that contest.
R.I.P. Joy Fleming.
Thank you for the music, Joy Fleming.
