Do you know a source for a good, labeled map of Eos and Lucis? After reading your fihrie posts & fic, I'm toying with a 'what would happen if Nyx and friends met an injured mermaid' plot bunny. I'm now tracking down Lucis' geography, Galahd's actual location, and when Galahd was invaded timeline-wise. Right now it's a nebulous mash up of Aquaman/Pirates 4/Atlantis ideas for the homo mermaid species (affectionately nicknamed 'Our Salty Neighbors')

That being said:

Sadly, I don't really have a good labeled map of Lucis. Every time I need one, I end up frantically looking one up on google for 15mins. XD

What I can say to Galahd's 'actual' location is that it's a bit of a mess. No one really knows where it is. The devs once indicated that it's the island group to the north east of Insomnia, I think.

I myself started my worldbuilding before anyone knew much more about Galahd than the pictures Nyx has pinned on his memory wall. So I just kind of put Galahd between the continents Lucis and Niflheim, the islands close to the Lucian continent. Since they look kinda big enough to support a whole nation.

(But I'm also a total a-hole and kind of, maybe, totally put more islands there. Because creative freedom. Yay!)

The timeline for the Galahdian invasion is also a bit of a nightmare. We know Nyx owned a bar with Libertus in Galahd, and on his memory wall Nyx has a letter from his sister congratulating him to his 20th birthday. In Kingsglaive Nyx is 32, so my best guess is the invasion happened sometime around the time when Tenebrae was conquered. Which was 12 years before canon.

That's my take on this. Please note that this stuff is still discussed in fandom, and while we mostly agree on some things, the details are very much up in the air and you can pretty much do what you want.

I hope that helps a little bit.

I love the LOTR live blog. You should do Two Towers sometime. You'd get a kick out of it. There is a very touching, "We're going to get our hobbits back" storyline.

An unlikely team of spies--or people who aren’t even trained spies, yet--end up having to jump in to save the day by doing whatever they can to uncover the details and figure out what to do with them. Team Voltron ends up being absurdly useful with their completely random and highly unusual skillsets that nevertheless work well together where a bunch of fully trained operatives couldn’t succeed.I dunno man that’s all I got Play Fic Never Have I Ever with me!

About Galahd culture and braids: what would the gift of a braid signify? I was curious what would happen if someone got lost in the islands and needed to barter for a favor or service but didn't have Anything except their hair to barter with. Could they gift a braid or lock of hair as payment or a token or an I.O.U?

That's... a very interesting idea.

Like it has come up before: A shaved head is a sign of great guilt, made ven worse if someone else cut the hair off. That person can now decide what to do with you, up to, and including, killing you.

That’s what happened in Heart of Thunder between Nyx, Luche and Tredd.

It’s showing everyone that they both are guilty of a horrible crime and part of their sentence as well. Everyone will know they did something Bad and act accordingly.

Gifting someone a braid is a... delicate thing. It heavily depends on which braid it is. You don’t gift Clan braids. That’s just a big no-no. If you cut off your Clan braid it’s the same as saying “I renounce all connection to this Clan”. Having it cut off is the Clan disavowing themselves from that person.

(It should also be said that cutting your hair short has grown perfectly accepteable in recent years as long as you either leave the braids alone or wear a necklace carrying the same messages as your braids.)

An unbraided lock of hair might actually work. It would still be a pretty big I.O.U. though. A very big one.

In cases like this, people would fashion the hair given to them into a bracelet as proof and only take it off and give the hair back once what is owed has been repaid.

Funny story. I originally read your fic title: Your Grace Is Wasted as Your Grace is wasted (~as in Your Grace [Shiro's an aristocrat] is drunk). I thought this for several months and thought it an odd title for a fic, but eh, artistic license. But just this week I bought a whole bunch of Mumford & Sons songs from iTunes including, The Cave. The title makes a lot more sense now.

Your Grace is Wasted Pt. 2: Ok, I did get The Cave, but I also bought Little Lion Man where the phrase is actually from, and wow, what a pun. Listening to the song and applying it to Shiro makes me sad. It makes me want to get out and wave a 'Shiro Deserves Better' banner. Awesome but painful.

I literally never thought of reading it that way, and that’s hilarious.  He does get drunk!  I can’t fault your logic at all, ahaha.  Alternatively, GTA style WASTED.  Shiro gets wrecked.

But yes, 95 percent of my fics have song lyrics as the titles, and often the chapter titles as well because I’m lazy. I think the only exceptions are: Infiltration, A Smol Interlude, and Days of Gladiator Love.  There’ll be one more coming out during posting for Gen Mini Bang, but other than that, 100 percent song lyrics.

Shiro does deserve better.  My poor boy.
