Warm Bodies, True Colors, and Vampire Academy
So I remembered the fact that I used to journal which books I read on tumblr so here's two I read over the past few days now that I can read for my own benefit again: Warm Bodies - Isaac Marion Okay, so I was initially skeptical about this book. I'm a vampire book person. Vampires can talk and be sexy attractive men. Zombies just like groan and are gross looking. So I was like there's no way this can be like a vampire book. But in the end, I guess he wasn't the super sexy character I was looking for, but I agree with Stephanie Meyer in that I definitely felt something for R. And now starts spoilers: So R is this zombie living in an airport and he and his best friend M just kinda [barely] walk around, riding escalators, etc. It's insanely boring. The first part that I was like "I cannot handle how weird this book is" was the whole married thing in the beginning. It basically went: Creepy Boney Things: -wave arms in the air and make weird groaning noises- Boney: -grabs R and his wife's hands and raises them while they all make weird groaning noises- And..... you're married now. Here's two kids that look nothing like you but you're now in charge of them. I was like.... wtf? But I kept reading...And I dunno, it wasn't the best thing I've ever read, but it was different. He meets Julie on a hunting trip where he eats her boyfriend's brain. He inherits his memories and ends up taking her back with him to the airport, defending her to the other zombies. And they start some cosmic end to the zombie curse by causing others to slowly regain their humanity. I just really wanna see the movie now to see how well what I pictured looks like what the movie portrays. But first, I have to go see The Great Gatsby ^^ Second book: True Colors by Joyce Lamb Again, I normally always read the vampire romance novels. Also, I didn't seek this book out. I randomly bought it along with some other novels at Salvation Army just cause there was a sale to get 3 books for $1. So yeah, I just randomly picked this book out of a box cause the cover looked interesting. And it turns out the book was just as interesting. Readily comparable to the vampire novels I've read, this book [spoiler] was about a girl named Alex Trudeau, a photojournalist, and her love interest, John Logan. She's obviously in love with him, he's obviously in love with her, but because of an accident she'd previously sustained, John Logan was slow to dating her. The whole book is super complicated with awesome complex sub plots. He's got history he's ashamed of, and she has this ability to feel/see inside people. She's got this empathy thing when she touches people she lives their most recent, or sometimes random, traumatic events. And she gets any cuts/bruises/injuries that the person had during the event. Oh and then she gets kidnapped. So really, it's difficult to explain in this one paragraph here, but it's an awesome read. I'm so glad I decided to read it. Complexity, romance, creative mind twists. Just read it :P IN OTHER NEWS: Vampire Academy is going to be a movie. I have mixed feelings on this. Positives: the guy playing Dimitri is actually gorgeous. Unlike the actor they chose to play Jace for Mortal Instruments. And he's Russian♥ Another positive, they chose no names for the actors and actresses. So there's no previous ideas to the actors. Appreciated especially since I strongly dislike their choice to have Lily Collins play Clary. The only negative I can see is that I'm pretty sure they might be trying to fit all of the books into one movie... I don't know how they can do that.
