I have not finished the new season of Camp Cretaceous yet, but can I just say that I love how the show treats all of the dinosaurs like animals?
Like, even the few bits of "friendly herbivores" can be explained away with "they're used to humans because they were raised around them" and the herbivores are STILL allowed to be dangerous while the carnivores are allowed to be more than just killing machines.
It's just really nice when you compare it to the rest of the franchise.
Dude, same. That's actually something that pissed me off about the first Jurassic Park, because like. Are bulls and cows herbivores? Yeah. But they're not harmless. The horns are there for a reason. And they'll attack you if you piss them off, or scare them. They seem generally peaceful, but I certainly wouldn't bother a cow.
If the newer films have done a better job depicting the carnivores as animals and not just killing machines, the show does it even better. I mean, they've done a good job showing that the raptors, for example, not only are extremely intelligent animals, but they also have their own individual personalities, like wolves. Some of the raptors are straight-up cruel, some of them seem a bit more chill and just follow their leader, and then there's Blue, who is aggressive and will kill you if you piss her off, but also actually shows empathy. They showed it in the films, but they also keep showing it in the show. She gets pissed at the kids for being in her territory, but she never actually harms them, and just lets them go after they help her, even after Kenji throws a coin at her. Damn, during the fight with the Scorpios, she basically says to Darius “drop that gun and I'll help, kid” and once he does, she fights the Scorpios and leaves them alone when they're done; other raptors might not have done that. And other carnivores like the T-Rexes are shown to be loving parents, and they are able be sort of empathetic as well. Because they are also animals with their own personalities.
And what I like the most is how the kids acknowledge that: yeah, dinosaurs are dangerous, most of the carnivores will eat them if they have the chance, but that doesn't make them monsters. They're animals. Big, or scary. But animals. And I love how they keep protecting them because it's the right thing to do.
