♖ comforting after a nightmare
She couldn’t sleep, then again, that wasn’t anything new so as she made her way out of her own room and down the hall, it was the noise that stopped her. Slowing her pace, Avery listened and when she heard the small moans and grunts that sounded more like he was in pain than anything, she had no shame in barging in. That’s when she noticed the tight grip against the bed sheets, and the way he grit down on his teeth as his head turned. “Jaime..” she started off before reaching over to shake him. “Hey, hey, Jaime!” she speaks up once more, and that’s when his eyes open, and his hand is reaching for her arm in a defensive manner. “Hey, no no it’s just me.” she assures almost instantly before he had the idea that she was an attacker. When he realized who he had held onto, she felt his grip against her wrist loosen until he finally let go, but he didn’t say anything and she wasn’t expecting him to. “It’s alright, i’m here for you.” she reassures before taking a seat beside him. She wasn’t sure if he wanted to talk, but all thoughts of food or anything on her mind was gone.
She hadn’t even realized that he was crying until she looked up to see that he had been. What happened to him? What had he been through? She didn’t know. Instead of saying anything, she lets him cry because she knows he may not be able to do this again or at least not in front of her this way. Instead, she pulls him to him, her own arms wrapping around his neck as she listens to the silent cries. “It’s okay, Jaime. You’re here with me, you’re safe.” she reassures before pulling away from him. A hand comes up to wipe away the tears that came falling but she doesn’t move her hand away from him. “Do you want to talk about it? Because i’m up for listening. I want to listen.” from what he had told her in letters, it was different than to be able to hear them in person, and she wasn’t opposed to it as long as he was alright with it.
♘ kiss on the foreheadhead
When he agrees to it, she changes position to where she was now seated beside him on the bed. She kept enough space between the two so it wouldn’t feel like she was invading his personal space and once he positioned himself in a seated position, she waited. The words that came out of his mouth were sugarcoated and she wasn’t sure if it was for her protection or to block out the horrible memories for himself. She wasn’t going to question it, and rather than cutting him off, she listened. Her heart ached for him, and she could feel the sadness in his voice. The people he lost, the people he had to kill to survive. It didn’t make him a monster, it made him a warrior. That’s when a thought had hit her. She had been able to do it with Colton, so perhaps she can do it with him as well. Reaching for his hand, she didn’t cut him off and allowed him to speak and as his words became heavier, the only thought that came to mind was to take away his pain and sorrow. It wasn’t an injury persay but it was emotional pain and that was enough to know she could do it. She hadn’t been practicing, which is why this took time but as her own heart began to grow heavy with sorrow, his own lesson and she could feel it when his words began to drift slightly. When the tears stopped from him only for herself to start crying. She could tell he was confused, but she could easily play this off; “You should get some rest. I think i’m going to go make myself a cup of tea.” she hadn’t let go of his hand just yet, but she did lean in to kiss the side of his head. Once she was sure he was alright, she let go of his hand as he changed into a sleeping position. She didn’t leave just yet all while trying to keep her own tears from falling. She’d be alright, and she knew it, but in this moment it was hard not to cry.

“You haven’t even been in town for a full month and you’ve managed to catch a cold? Really?” she shakes her head, but felt responsible for not catering to him properly. She also figured the weather changes would have an affect on his body. “Alright i’m going to make you some soup and then i’m going to make you a cup of tea and it should help you sleep.” with that being said, Avery gestures for him to go back into her room. “I mean you’re an idiot if you believe i’m letting you go back to your place so, i’ll see you in fifteen minutes.” it wasn’t a request and the wolf very well knew it, because he was already making his way up to the guest room, her own pup following behind.

As soon as he left to go upstairs, Avery made a mental note to make sure he was tucked in correctly. Until then she set the kettle on the stove while waiting for the soup to finish up. As soon as the soup was ready, Avery waited another ten minutes before grabbing the herbs and tea bag to fix his tea. Alright, it was cheating and she knew it, but he wasn’t going to get any sleep with just soup. Plus knowing him, his mind would be awake even while he tried to sleep, so the herbal tea was good to put him to sleep for a few hours. Once everything was ready, Avery carried his bowl of soup and cup of tea on a tray before heading towards his room. Luckily he had been settled in bed but was far too busy playing a game of tug of war with her dog. “Alright, play time is over. Buttons, let’s go.” she adds before whistling so that he could hop off the bed. Clearly the dog had other plans and lay beside him. Once the tray was set on the bed, she handed him the bowl of soup before placing his tea on the sidetable beside the bed. “Let me know if you need anything else. If Buttons bothers you, just call me and i’ll take him with me. I’m going to go ahead and start on dinner so when you wake up, there will be more to eat.” she adds before grabbing the tray and heading out. However, she didn’t close teh door behind just so she could hear if he called for her.
☺ my muse helping your muse fall asleep
It had been fifteen minutes before she decided to check in on him. He had been sipping his tea and she was glad that he was as well. “I’m more of a coffee person but the tea is nice, thank you.” she was sure he would be more of a coffee person but this wasn’t just some tea for comfort. It would help him sleep–something she wasn’t going to mention. “I know, it’s more calming.” is what she says instead before walking over to grab the empty bowl. “Would you like more soup?” she asks and in response he shakes his head before covering a yawn. The tea was clearly working; “Good, I’ll also have some medicine for you after you wake up.” as he finished off his tea, he didn’t fight back to stay awake or argue about feeling alright. As he lay back in bed, Avery pulled the blanket up to his shoulder before ruffling his hair lightly. “You’ll feel better soon.” she knew he would, plus he was a werewolf so if anything he didn’t need the meds. She was sure once he was awake he’d be feeling better. Leaving him now, Avery headed back downstairs to finish dinner.
