Sideshow Bob Headcanons, Part 1

I realize I have a LOT of really specific thoughts about Bob that I ought to share with the class, so here's my first set about his and Cecil's dysfunctional childhood, which lays the groundwork for others.

I think that neither Bob nor Cecil received enough attention from their parents as kids. Judith would be away from home a lot with her acting career, and Robert Sr. would frequently be busy with his medical practice. Likely there was a nanny or au pair in the picture.

I don't think either parent would realize it was a problem, as they provided all the best for their boys - clothes and schools and clubs and events, filling their lives with art, culture and society. They were supportive in their own way, though perhaps not in the way their boys needed. This unintentionally made Bob and Cecil feel like rivals for their parents' affection, since there was never enough to go around.

Their parents had the typical high expectations of an elder sibling for Bob while giving Cecil more leeway. In response, Bob would feel like they were being harsh on him while Cecil was coddled, but at the same time he would learn to earn attention through academic success.

Meanwhile, Cecil would feel like his own achievements weren't recognized compared to Bob's, and he would vacillate between competing with his brother directly and attempting to forge a new path for himself.

Ultimately, this leads young Bob, ever the people pleaser, to model his future after his father. (More on that in the next part.) Cecil starts down a similar path but ultimately tries to follow in his mother's footsteps, the results of which we see in the episode "Brother from Another Series."

Would love to hear thoughts! My headcanons tend to be canon-compliant, more about filling in the blanks and adding backgrounds than reinventing the wheel, but I feel like Bob has so many possibilities.

Life in the Terwilliger house would be so bizarre but so oddly charming?

Here are some Headcannons.

It’s a family full of homicidal geniuses.

Seriously. Have you looked at the requirements to get into an Ivy-League school?

Bob and Cecil MIGHT be legacies but they went to different schools. It’s hard to say but you have to be an impossible level of smart to get in.

Good lord where do we begin with Bob? He apparently knows how to speak several languages, can learn and adapt to any environment he’s in and can learn a complex skill such as plastic surgery in what could be assumed to be only months. He has a lot of political know-how due to being elected Mayor of two cities.He also has a Ph.D as well. Despite easily being the most intelligent family member he is easily the most egotistical and can get in over his head legally if he’s not reigned in by one of his supports. He also seems to be more unstable and is prone to psychosis whenever he does not have the support of his family. I think he needs some sort of support in order to remain lucid and cohearant.

I personally see Cecil as the more analytical and logical of the two. He is a trained engineer and knew enough about economic principles to embezzle quite a lot of money. Niles was the Crane brother that always brought Fraiser back down to earth(while insulting him along the way ). I’d like think that he is in own twisted way provides this for Bob. When they aren’t fighting or trying to outsmart each other I think he is the one that is most rooted in reality.

I HC that Franny is a classically trained opera singer or is a performer of some sort. I don’t think Bob is so shallow that he would marry and have a child with a woman solely based on her looks. So she would also have to be on or near the same level as the rest of them.

Can we talk about how crazy smart Gino is? He’s bilingual and is under the age of 5 and can understand abstract concepts such as revenge and can play complex card games.

Robert Sr. Is a doctor and he more than likely went to either Yale or Princeton. I would love to get more info on him and how he more than likely solo parented his sons because Judith was an actress. He more than likely had to be a single parent with two very intelligent boys. That takes a lot of patience and tact. No matter who you are.

There is so much to be theorized about Judith. She could be why her two sons are so dramatic and are constantly seeking attention. I’d like more background on her and how her boys reacted to her most likely not being in their lives. Judith seemed to tolerate and enjoy the company of Francesca and I’d love to see them interact and see her be a grandmother to Gino.

A typical day in their household would be very mundane but with splashes of elite, “uptown” touches.

I love the idea of Gino going to a Montessori school.
