okay sorry i kinda forgot to actually listen to the album for a while @spiralhouses
WOW this album was not what i expected going in. JUMBO by Juicebumps, for any clueless random post viewers wondering what on earth i may be talking about. i typically have words to describe music but i have been left dumbfounded in neither a good nor bad way. okay. so the vocals in all of the tracks are very fun, i am really loving the vibes of how they sing. sometimes the vocals just sound like them speaking normally or yelling without much of a melody and that's enjoyable. the guitars and synths and samples feel all over the place in a way i like, i don't know what is going to happen next at any point but everything makes sense once it plays. there is a lot of noise in many of the songs, but i do not feel like i'm being bombarded by sound which is good! the production is also nice, big fan of all the effects, especially those placed on the vocals.
the lyrics themselves are strange and sometimes wacky. i had to listen to some of the songs multiple times to actually decipher words. i do not get what is actually being sung about, but i find myself vibing with the lyrics so i won't complain. as for the drums (i am a huge percussion fan), i find myself mostly satisfied. the break sampling in Soopermart makes me happy. i love that very much. most of the beats are unique and i find myself tapping my desk to. there are some that mildly bore me, mostly that of Pisspants, but i can get over that since it fits well with the song anyway.
my favorite song off of this album: Dead Asleep. my ratings, some having explanations and others lacking them:
Dead Asleep (this is a solid 95/100 from me, very fun track. those last like 20 seconds AUGH just wonderful)
Soopermart (very close second, 94/100. the vocals are great, i feel like i'm tripping, and the breaks make me smile)
Kankor (91/100 loved this as a closing track, its samples and production are quite fun, little else to say)
Edging in Heaven (86/100)
Scatterbrain (85/100 off to a good start. the immediate guitar really drew me in)
Wiggler (84/100 another trip of a track, but this time it's not quite as good. but i love the guitar in this one a LOT!!! and the funny wiggly vocals)
Monosodium Glutamate (gotta go 84/100 this one made me smile also. a generally good time of a song. the "nobody to talk to" repeated was my favorite part. also the guitar suddenly getting really loud at the end is great)
Channel Surfer (82/100 okay this one is barely a song but i like how it serves as the interlude of the album. i am an interlude enjoyer. it bridges very well i like it)
Licking Lady (81/100)
Supercool (77/100)
Babyman (not even sure what to give this, i guess 72/100. it's pretty middle-of-the-road by me. unfortunate for the longest track on the album. i like the synth more than most other tracks. i think the vocals are interesting. not much else)
Slog (68/100 okay this one bored me more than the rest of the album. i enjoyed it, i love the "Wwwwwhat the fuck was that?" at the start. very nice instrumental. just kinda didn't appeal much to me)
MEDIAN RATING: 84/100 MEAN RATING: ~84/100 RATING RANGE: 27 (from 68 to 95)
overall, i have no clue what is happening in this album but they did many things right here. i am really unsure of what emotion this album was supposed to make me feel, but okay! i visited their website after listening and honestly, yeah, this checks out. not sure what else i should've expected. they describe their music as "stream-of-consciousness" and yeah i DEFINITELY hear that now. it kinda just sounds like words coming out in a string in most songs off this album. and coming from a huge fan of stream of consciousness writing, i can absolutely approve of that. thank you for the recommendation, here's another album to my Bandcamp wishlist that i will buy eventually!
