Actually people are mostly shitting themselves over the payable mods on Steam, because Valve has fucking terrible conditions. They approached the topic in the wrong way. Only 25% of the money goes to the modder. (That's INCREDIBLE little) and the customer can only get their money back 24 hours after the payment. With mods there is no guarantee that they will work in the future or even work with other mods. 24 hours is waaay too little time. No one else than Valve profits from this shitty system.
That’s something more reasonable to shit yourself over
But the former argument - the one I presented - was what I was seeing more often.
Still, that’s fairly shitty. I’m pretty sure that 25% is held too until it reaches the $100 threshold. But, the 24 hours seems reasonable, at least to me. It lets a person find any issues with the mod that can be fixable, and allows them to properly try the mod out before deciding on a refund. Plus the refund can be given ANY TIME after that 24, so there’s really no rush. Unless you mean to say that the refund can only be given within those 24 hours, then yeah that’s waaay too little time.
However, in terms of people finding bad mods or rip-offs; they have a system that allows people to be warned. Reviews, reports, comments, etc. Even though the people posting said reviews are either gonna have a good or bad time with the mods, it gives a chance for the majority of the community to see the red lights before wasting cash. It allows garbage to sink to the bottom, and cream to rise to the top, as Not-So-Serious put it.
Another thing to keep in mind that this is a NEWLY IMPLEMENTED SYSTEM. You’re gonna have a lot of kinks to iron out still once it reaches the public. Given time, I’m sure this system will work for Valve AND the modder community.
