It’s still Julerose June (and Pride month) in the West, and I finally got the okay to post this. Commission for @anonymous-ivplay I’m glad you like it! And now I hope everyone else can enjoy it too.
It was the next day after Rose spent her afternoon with Prince Ali, and she couldn’t shut up about it. Hoping for him to get his letter was one thing. But hanging out with him was a whole other level of fangirling. So, why not squeal about it with the person she trusted the most.
Which was why she had been gushing for the last fifteen minutes to Juleka.
“You should’ve seen how he treated those kids,” she squeaked. “He was so kind and gentle.”
“That’s great,” Juleka muttered.
“And he never talked down to them.”
Juleka shifted her eyes, avoiding catching Rose’s gaze.
“I’m fine,” she muttered.
“No, you’re not. I know when you’re upset. Please, talk to me.”
“Come on, what are friends for?”
Juleka winced. A reaction that didn’t go unnoticed by Rose. But before she could ask, Juleka turned to walk away. The blonde quickly dove for her wrist.
“Why won’t you talk to me?!”
“Because I don’t wanna lose you!” Juleka sniffed. “If I tell you what’s really bothering me, I don’t think we’ll be able to stay friends.”
Rose placed a hand on Juleka’s arm.
Juleka’s lips turned into a line, before she took a shaky breath.
“I was so worried about you,” she finally said. “You’re one the most positive people I know. So I couldn’t believe you got akumatized. And then you ran off with…” She grabbed on to her elbows. “I don’t even want to think about how I would’ve felt if I lost you.”
Rose tilted her head. “Lose me in what sense?”
Juleka didn’t respond. Instead, she turned her head further away, as if trying to cover her face. But not far enough that Rose wouldn’t be able to see the sudden blush on the girl’s cheeks.
“Juleka,” Rose said cautiously, “Do you… like me, as more than a friend?”
“N-no.” she visibly gulped. “That’s silly.”
But Rose knew Juleka well enough to recognize a lie. Her confused expression quickly turned into a wide grin at the revelation. She squeaked Juleka’s name and squeezed her into a hug.
“What are you—” But Juleka didn’t get to finish, for Rose had crashed her lips into hers.
The kiss only lasted a fraction of a second, but it was enough to render her speechless, even after it was over. Rose was still grinning, as if she hadn’t just changed their relationship completely.
“I didn’t think I’d ever have a chance!” she beamed. “You never talk about your love life, so I didn’t know if you liked girls or not. And I wasn’t sure if you were comfortable talking about it.”
Juleka blinked. “That was my first kiss.”
“Oh,” Rose gasped, covering her mouth. “I’m sorry, I got excited.”
“It’s okay,” said Juleka, with a quiet laugh. “It was nice, actually.”
It was now Rose’s turn to blush. She cleared her throat.
“Would you like to have lunch together? As more than friends?” she asked.
With an excited grin, Juleka nodded. Softly, she took her hand and they exited the school together.
