Julia Robinson (1919-1985) was a mathematician who worked on mainly on decision problems. She was a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, after obtaining her PhD there in 1948.
Along with decision problems, she worked with sequential analysis in statistics and game theory. She was the first female mathematician elected to the US National Academy of Sciences, and the first women president of the American Mathematical Society.

Julia Hall Bowman Robinson is best known for her work in decidability and decision problems, including an area of computation theory known as Hilbert's tenth problem. Robinson was a professor of mathematics at the University of California, Berkeley. She had faced ill health since suffering rheumatic fever as a child, and so never undertook a full-time schedule while teaching there. She spent much of her personal time volunteering in support of progressive political candidates.

Nonetheless, just after her 50th birthday, twenty two year old Soviet mathematician Yuri Matiyasevich announced that he had solved the problem and gave her the nod for helping in the solution.
