I was going through quotes I have from my friend group at school and I found one that's basically the juniors in modern era like just hear me out -

Jin RuLan, trying to break into Lan SiZhui's phone to delete a photo via stealing Lan JingYi's hand without warning: Hey! I wanted your fingerprint to get in his phone because you are brothers and I thought it would be similar enough!

Lan JingYi: Our fingerprints would be nothing alike, he's adopted! We're both adopted!

Queue Lan SiZhui coming out of the bathroom and setting RuLan and SiZhui fighting over his phone: Guys.. can you please just give me back my phone

OuYang ZiZhen: *grabs the phone to give it to SiZhui and goes back to studing because he has to makeup a test he's already failed twice, he is stressed*

62. “Why is there a dog in my living room?” 

“Why is there a dog in my room?” Lan Shizui asks, his eyes moving between his friends and the dog, all camped out on the floor of his room. The dog, well, more reasonably a puppy, was squirming on the ground and wrestling with a piece of twine that Jin Ling was using to play tug of war. 

“Because the senior disciples have already checked your room, but they haven’t finished with ours yet.” Lan Jingyi supplies, his fingers inching forward and scratching the puppy on it’s soft, pink belly, and laughing when his fingertips are nipped at.

Looking over his shoulder Lan Shizui quickly shuts it behind him and walks closer to the trio on the floor. “Why are the senior disciples doing room checks?”

“Because someone told them that a pet had been sneaked into Cloud Recesses of course.” Ouyang Zizhen is the one to speak this time, breaking off crumbs of dried meat and trying to get the puppy interested in that, rather than Lan Jingyi’s fingers. Lan Shizui doesn’t pretend to be surprised when it doesn’t work.

“I bet it was one of the disciples from the Yao sect, they can’t ever mind their own business.” Lan Jingyi pipes up and takes one of the pieces of dried meat from Ouyang Zizhen’s hand. The puppy likely couldn’t chew dried meat yet, Lan Shizui wants to say, but something more important bubbles up first. 

“Pets are forbidden in Cloud Recesses! Dogs are especially forbidden in Cloud Recesses! If Senior Wei finds out-”

“If my Da-Jiu finds out he’s going to hide behind Hanguang-jun until the dog leaves.” Jin Ling interrupts, picking up the puppy and holding it against his chest protectively, “That’s why Little Emperor is coming with me when I leave.”

Before Lan Shizui can say anything, Lan Jingyi and Ouyang Zizhen are both speaking.

“Little Emperor is a stupid name! At least give the dog a better name if you’re going to hog him for yourself!”

“No one’s decided who’s taking the dog when we leave, Jin Ling, Little Emperor might want to come home with me.”

All Lan Shizui can do is watch as Jin Ling’s face goes red and he scoffs, “Why shouldn’t he be called Little Emperor? He’s small and regal, isn’t he? And what do either of you know about keeping dogs? Fairy has been with me all my life, I’m the only one who knows how!”

Little Emperor might look regal when he was sitting still, but right now, he looked anything but with both little hindlegs in the air while he groomed himself. Lan Shizui decides not to say anything. 

He hasn’t even noticed that the arguing has quietened down until Ouyang Zizhen is calling his name and all eyes in the room are on him, save for Little Emperor’s, who’s decided to nap between Jin Ling and Lan Jingyi instead. 

“Can Little Emperor stay with you, Shizui? Please?” Ouyang Zizhen pleads and Lan Shizui has to press his lips into a fine line. He should say no, but even Lan Jingyi is starting to look at him with a pout on his face. 

“Please? He can’t stay in mine because the seniors always check me first. If I have to do anymore handstands my arms are gonna fall off, Shizui.”

Jin Ling says nothing, but his eyebrows are pinched together and the frown on his face is deepening. Little Emperor only kicks and makes the tiniest little yips in his sleep.

“Okay.” Lan Shizui says finally, his shoulders sagging forward as a cheer goes up from his friends, waking Little Emperor up with their noise. 

Their cheering quickly turns into whining as Little Emperor stands and comes over to climb into Lan Shizui’s lap instead of choosing any of them.
