"Jun?"
Jun snapped out of whatever far away trance he was in, lifting his head quickly and looking over towards the man sitting on the bench beside him.
"Wha-? Oh. Sorry about that, Wornhardt. My head was just in the clouds. I didn't mean to space out on you."
Jun was sitting on the bench beside the hospital having his usual counseling session with Wornhardt. The conversation had eventually waned out as a peaceful silence sat in the air. Wornhardt had been enjoying the quiet when he happened to notice Jun's eyes following something off in the distance.
There, about a mile away, was the new farmer. Wornhardt sat back and watched Jun's eyes trace the path of the farmer until they were completely out of sight. Then, Jun's gaze settled on a patch of grass in front of them as though a million thoughts were running through his head. That's when Wornhardt had tried to get Jun's attention, only to realize he was much more entranced than he initially thought.
"That's perfectly alright, Jun. Though, I do have a bit of a concern..."
"Concern? I'm here to listen if you want to talk."
"Well actually, it's a concern concerning you, Jun."
"Concerning me?"
Then, Wornhardt reached across the bench, peeling back the end of his glove just enough to expose the back of his hand as he rested it against Jun's forehead. Jun was visibly confused.
"Hm... Just as I worried."
"Oh, Wornhardt. Leave it to you to always worry about other people. I can assure you though, I feel just fine," Jun replied.
"No. It would appear that you're lovesick, Jun."
"Love- Huh? Lovesick? Wornhardt, what are you saying?" Jun replied, laughing nervously.
"Staring off into the distance, easily distracted, shortness of breath, and let me guess, increased heartrate as well? Whenever the new farmer happens to walk by?"
Jun blinked a few times, shocked. Then, he smiled sheepishly and looked at the ground.
"Is it really that obvious?"
"Well, I may be a little more observant than most. But I'd say, yes, judging by the way you look at them every time they're near it is a tad bit obvious."
"I see... I was hoping it wasn't quite that obvious," Jun said finally, letting silence fall over them again.
"Are you planning on telling them?"
"You mean confessing my feelings? I'm not so sure yet. They just moved here and I'm sure they're busy with everything that comes with that. I was hoping things would sort of develop naturally. I don't want to come on too strong, you know?"
"That's understandable. They are quite popular though. I'd hate to see what might happen if another suitor swept them up before you had the chance to tell them how you feel."
Jun sat for a moment, his expression not quite somber but certainly not comfortable with the thought Wornhardt put in his head.
"You're right. Thanks for the concern, Wornhardt. I should probably start seriously thinking about a way to tell them how I feel."
"Well, I'm not the most well versed in romance, but I strongly advise that you do it sooner rather than later. And I wish the best for you both."
Jun blushed, smiling, "Thanks, Wornhardt. It means a lot to me that you took the time to talk to me about this and listen. After all, that's what I was supposed to be doing for you."
"Of course. It's no problem at all. By the way," Wornhardt nodded and pointed his eyes out in front of them, "I think that's for you."
"Hm?" Jun's head swiveled out in front of him, seeing the new farmer standing there with a fresh blueberry salad in their hands, their smile shining as bright as the summer sun.
Jun's heart shot into his throat. How long were they standing there? How much had they heard? He would have to ask them about that later. But for now, he smiled at them, trying his best to be as warm and welcoming as they always were towards him.
"A blueberry salad. I don't know what to say. Thank you so much! You're the best. I mean it."
