You’ve been on a few dates with the town’s local counselor at this point already. The two of you have been going steady for a while. Though you both have little time to truly spend together, you cherish every moment life brings your way.
You watch the water ripple in small waves as a leaf gently lands on its surface. A soft breeze sends it floating towards you and you can make out the tiny reflective bodies of pond guppies darting about beneath the crystal blue surface. You smell the grass as the wind blows into your face, the quiet sound of Liam’s wheat field rustling in the distance. A pair of tiny white butterflies dance around you, fluttering about until they disappear off in the distance. You haven’t even noticed that Jun’s been watching you this entire time, completely ignorant to the small wonders you’ve been observing.
Looking over you see his violet eyes shining like he’s been observing something much more wondrous. A dozen different shades of cool warmed by the late afternoon sun. He smiles and it reaches his eyes, his hand inching closer to yours across the grass. You meet him halfway, brushing your fingertips over his skin.
“I never could’ve imagined Sun Haven would bring me a person like you, (Y/n). You make my life feel complete.”
You looked down as your cheeks warmed. He was always saying such romantic things to make it harder to maintain eye contact, but his eyes always sparkled even more when he saw you avoiding his gaze with such bashfulness.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t embarrass you, did I?” He asks.
“No. I just… don’t know what to say when you say things like that. But I feel the same way, Jun.”
His face turns towards the pond sitting before you, a light blush radiating his features as he glances at the water below.
“That’s wonderful to hear.”
Just then, you gather the courage while his eyes are averted to lean in towards him and kiss his cheek. His scent is a mix of different things. Paints, the books from the library, and something light and refreshing that is so uniquely Jun. You hang there a moment to savor it. That’s when Jun turns and brings a hand up to your chin. His eyes are wide and full of awe, though his face is so pink you can almost feel the pulse rushing beneath his skin. A moment passes and you begin to feel dizzy with his nearness. His smell and his looks and how deeply he is staring at you.
“Can I kiss you?”
With his face already inches away, you can feel the breath of his words brush your lips. You nod, lost in a kind of stupor. With a relaxed smile he leans in, his nerves seemingly calmed with your small assurance. You close your eyes as his soft lips meet yours and everything melts into a warm, rosy haze. The sunlight on your skin. The birds chirping in the rustling trees. The soft, damp sound of your kiss breaking momentarily only to reunite with a stronger, more confident passion. The hand that was on your chin slowly moves to your hair, brushing away the stray locks as the wind tousles them.
Even as the kiss sends you into a whirlwind of soft, floating feelings, the touch from Jun himself grounds you. When he pulls away you both smile, dazed with love and the warm Spring air filling your lungs.
“Wow. That was…” he says breathlessly.
“Perfect,” you finish.
“Perfect. I agree.”
