SHIPPING THEM IS WEIRD AND GROSS. It doesn’t MATTER that they were friends for years before Barry moved in. It doesn’t matter that Barry had a crush on her for all of those years. And it DEFINITELY doesn’t matter that they were only raised in the same house for their teenage years, AND never once even imply they think of each other as siblings (the closest they got was 1. In the pilot. And things changing after a pilot is extremely common but additionally 2. As @shrinkthisviolet has previously pointed out— IRIS IMMEDIATELY SAYS “because we’re not brother and sister” RIGHT AFTER THE ‘kinda like brother and sister’ LINE. CAUSE THEY’RE NOT! Neither of them consider themselves as such. And from that point on Iris only ever refers to them as best friends).
A N D . Jesus christ, as someone with a sibling, as someone who’s known many people with siblings, I will tell you right now— they do not act like siblings. Sure, plenty of different sibling relationships exist; but theirs just doesn’t come off that way At All. They act like best friends (hell, once they’re together they still act like best friends *when the writers let them*!). Never *quite* fully platonic best friends ofc, but best friends nonetheless. And not fucking siblings.
