This gown was created by Walter Plunkett for 𝑳𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝑾𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏 in 1949. Interestingly, this was the 𝒔𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒅 time that Plunkett had designed gowns for a production of 𝑳𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝑾𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏, the first being in the 1933 adaptation, starring Katharine Hepburn as Jo March.   This costume was worn by June Allyson as Jo March in 𝑳𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝑾𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏 and then recycled for 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑻𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝑻𝒂𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒕 in 1951, where it was worn by Ruby Dee as Rachel.   The costume eventually went on to be purchased by Debbie Reynolds. Costume designer Walter Plunkett created this pretty pink 💗 gown for 1949’s 𝑳𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝑾𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏, 👩‍👩‍👧‍👦 where June Allyson wore it as Jo March. Interestingly, this was the second production of 𝑳𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝑾𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏 that Plunkett worked on, having previously created the costumes for the 1933 adaptation.   The pink dress appeared again, worn by Nancy Kilgas in 1954 as Alice in 𝘚𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘚𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘉𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴! 👰   🔗 Find more reused costumes on our website!

In the early 50's, June Allyson was becoming increasingly disenchanted with the types of roles she was getting at MGM and ultimately parted from the studio. Mostly, because of a broken promise... "Although June was now in her prime, MGM was not. She was given less and less rewarding roles, because, she claims, the studio felt any picture with her in it would make money, and it would be ridiculous to waste time tailor-making vehicles for her.
