Juneteenth Parade in Beaumont, Texas (1925)
Silent film by Solomon Sir Jones
Juneteenth has always been celebrated on this soil since the emancipation of the Galveston ancestors in 1865. (It should be noted that, in Oklahoma, the Choctaw Nation of the Five "Civilized" Tribes freed the other ancestors in 1866 in exchange for $300,000 (about $10 million today) from the government, like their white counterparts.) The federal acknowledgment of emancipation by Joe Crow Biden with a pending centuries owed debt of redress for Black Americans is not a celebratory act. It's a take this and hush act.
A freedom parade in 1925. In the midst of Jim Crow, the Black Codes, first instituted by Dem. President Andrew Johnson. Lyncings yearly. Rosewood Massacre went down 2 years prior. The Tulsa Race Massacre (Black Wall Street): 4 years prior. Red Summer (Massacres) of 1919 wasn't too far behind. The racist imprisonment and death of the Scottsboro Boys: 6 years later. That 40-year long Tuskegee Syphillis Experiment would begin 7 years later.
Each year, the ancestors in Texas and various states would still acknowledge the emancipation of slavery whilst living in the rebellion of it ending. Just wrap your mind around that.
An Anti-Black Hate Crime bill and reparations for Black Americans are the top two things of importance. To build this foundation and everyone eats while you watch in the distance and random people get handouts, adjusting themselves in your bootstraps in the midst of telling you you need to get your own. Chile.
Redress. Cash payments. Thanks.
