18 and 19 for your hawke if you're still doing the character asks
rest assured that I am ~always~ on some level soliciting character asks !
18. Does the character have other characters connected to them? Do you have a family tree and "offscreen" connections made up for them or do they exist in a vacuum purely for the purpose of the story?
Juniper is funnier to me the less context there is for her entire deal tbh <3 But uhhhhh as for my first and once-again canon Hawke, Tabitha... Hawke as a character feels so much more pre-established than other protags in the series that I haven't really felt like it's necessary to come up with much more beyond what is already directly alluded to, in order to grok who they are and where it is that they've come from?
I might end up on anders rivalry path whenever I get around to juniper's playthrough (honestly, possibly everyone's except isabela's) but it'll be really weird if I do because from what I've seen it strongly assumes that the only reason you'd be headed down anders' rivalry path is because your hawke is pro-circle and. juniper isn't that she's just a cunt fhdkkjfkcj
still very funny to me how it's tabitha hawke who becomes the blood mage and abomination (such as she is. it's complicated. look. there were extenuating circumstances.) and juniper who never does. everyone who's ever met juniper would assume she's the big bad blood mage your parents warned you about. but she's just like "lmao. git gud scrubs"
for the codex entries, 1 for juniper, 12 for sulina? 👀

Everybody in the whole wide world is dyyyying to bitch about Juniper behind her back so I gave it to the first two to spring to mind. ;)
1. an overheard conversation about your OC
"...arrogant, self-centred, self-absorbed, self-obsessed–" "Now, why don't you tell me how you really feel, Blondie?" "And you're always the first to defend her, so I don't know why I even bother." "Now, now. You know how Flames is. She makes twenty new enemies every time she opens her mouth. I'm just trying to keep the heat down, as it were.... You're not exactly a prize yourself, you know." "I know about the payments, Varric." "I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about." "I appreciate it. I really do. It's just... This all feels so... unsustainable." "Now, are we talking money—a subject which, I assure you, I know nothing about and we'll never speak of again—or are we still talking about our mutual friend?" "It just... everything feels like it's... coming to a head. And we should be on the same page, but we never are. There's always something with her—usually her attitude." "Wait, let me see if I've got this one... Self-centered, self-absorbed, self-obsessed?" "And now... Maker, what's with the damned priest?" "Andraste's shiny belt buckle, don't get me started on the thing with Choir Boy. I don't know. I don't know. I can't explain it. I've given up on trying to. I just let it all wash over me. This might as well happen." "...I can't do that, Varric." "I know you can't, Blondie. So, maker's grace tonight?" "...I can't." "Sure you can. Or, what, you're just going to hole up down in Darktown forever? I know for a fact we're the only social life you've got. So are you gonna come quietly or do I need to get Flames to come down here and kick your ass up and down the sewer until you snap out of this rut you're in?" "Don't, Varric. I have plans tonight. I–" "Psst. Can it, Blondie. Did you hear that? I think we've got a fly on the wall. Hang on."

12. your OC overheard while drunk
Weren't my idea to move this near to the forest. Maker, no. But the missus wanted to move closer to her family, and so's here I am anyway. They'll tell all sorts of stories about the Brecilian—armies of ghosts from ancient times past, savage elves like to slit your throat soon's they lay eye on you, witches what'll string you up and suck the life outta you, trees come to life to wallop you over the head, things like that. It's not good and natural, that place, is the point. But game's game. A man and his family got to put food on the table somehow or another. So we do what we can. So's one morning me and Dougal are out hunting and trapping—not gone too far out, maybe an hour or so. When all the sudden what do you know but all the trees around us start shaking, jerking about wildly, and moaning and groaning. Not a storm in the sky, clear and still a day as any—except, you know, for the fog. Always fog out in the Brecilian, and it'll set your teeth on edge, tell you what. And now here all the sudden the wind is blowing and the fog swirling round about and the trees waving their limbs, and I'd've about sworn one told me it was gonna get me if I didn't make myself scarce and fast. Now, Dougal takes off like a shot. Ranting and raving, oh god, the trees. Maker, the trees are gonna get me. Blah blah blah. Superstitious bastard. I try to catch him up but it's clear he's long gone and left me fend for myself. Well, I'm no fool, and I'm not like to be chased out of the forest on account of no trees, neither. So's I circle back around real quiet like—would've been real fucking smart of me if that's how I got myself ate by a wilds witch, you know? But you know what it is that I find? Well as you might've well guessed, as I kinda did, it weren't but a bunch of damn fool kids perched up in the trees, hooting and hollering and giggling like loons. Three of em, at least. Maybe more. Higher'n tits on their own hi-larious joke and, I dunno, dandelion wine, elfroot... whatever them forest elves do to unwind. How in the hell would I know. Now I'm startin to suspect all the tales I've heard about the spooky forest horrors were not more'n a load of smoke blown up my ass, but I'm not about to stick around and find out if mama bear's lurking nearby her cubs. So I head back to town and there's Dougal already, ranting and raving like an idiot. Damn near bursts into tears when he sees me. Thought the trees must've got to me. Thanks for that, you know. And me? I'm keeping my trap shut. Let the damn fool have his little moment in the spotlight. Couldn't be more clearly what he wants. Should I have said something then about the elves camped right out in our backyard? I mean, I guess so. If I had, they would've rounded up a hunting party and gone after em right then and there, most like. Just how it goes. I wasn't but a little sore bout the whole ordeal. Kids, you know? Me'n the missus got a few, all grown now. So maybe I'm the sentimental fool here. 'Cause the next week two trappers show up dead—Nell and Roddy. Arrows right through the throat, clean as you like. May they rest at the Maker's side or what have you. And so, yeah, we round up the able and we start shooting right back at em. Dougal wants to burn the whole damned forest down, and so we do a bit of that, too. No, I don't think anything I coulda shoulda said would've changed anything but that maybe we come to blows a touch sooner. That's just how it is when you live right up the forest's asscrack. Now the missus and I are packing up and moving back to Lothering and I'll be damned pleased to be well shot of it, I'll tell you that.

A note, in the bottom corner, written at a later date in a different hand: Sulina- Your clan camped often in this region, no? Would this happen to be anyone you know? -L
the juniper-aveline entanglement is everything to me. everyone assumes she's related to the hawkes because when you stroll into town with a flock of other red-headed ferelden refugees what else are they going to think. she's permanently "fought desperately for each other's lives"-bonded with all of them. leandra's like a second mother to her (more of a mother to her than she is to her own eldest daughter, in some ways). she and juniper and carver all blame each other and themselves for failing to prevent her death. they couldn't stand each other before and they definitely can't stand each other after. disentangling their lives hurts more than the entanglement ever did. she was immediately dubbed "human aveline" because the dog was there first.
on the one hand tabitha hawke has a big stupid gay crush on aveline that she's desperately trying to hide while varric has a big stupid gay crush on tabitha that he's desperately trying to hide
on the other hand aveline and juniper hawke are constantly mistaken for close relatives and each would sell the other to satan for one corn chip and meanwhile varric is simultaneously repulsed by and psychosexually obsessed with juniper
