ya basically!!! everything ever has been inspired by something else somehow!!! it is impossible for art to be created in a void!!! i in no way see how its a problem to say, in passing and without malicious intent, that something reminds you of something else like tbh its such a bizarre thing to get offended over imo

many people didn’t! It’s almost the same kind of response as when I made my “identifying stealth nazis” post about a year ago. Massively, people were shocked that there were nazis and neofascists among them in 2016 with seemingly ‘innocuous’ blog headers and stuff dogwhistling their presence to others of their kind, and now they’re shocked in 2017 after we’ve had a whole political campaign saturated with their presence. It’s not surprising to me, as a jewish girl, because many people’s default state about this issue is “head. sand. 24/7.”

This, especially. I can’t count how many times that someone who speaks another english dialect has been skewered for using idioms they use in everyday life, or someone who speaks english as a second or even third language has transliterated the way they communicate and been leaped on. People spend a long time looking for stuff to hate in posts they see on blogs specifically curated as “here’s hate-able posts!” and that’s sort of the end of it.
